“When I say so. I’ll let Rob know. He will be with you tonight.” With instructions to break any finger that dares to touch what's mine. I’ve never been the possessive type, but the thought of a man even looking Wren’s way makes me want to put a bullet through his forehead.
I hate that she works at a bar. The only reason I’m letting her go is because I know Cain wouldn’t let any shit fly in his bar. His guys lose it if someone touches a woman who doesn’t want it. And I fully back that, but that doesn’t mean I’m okay with some fuck even looking at what’s mine and thinking he can have it. Rob has orders to squash that shit.
She shouldn’t be working at all, but that’ll change soon. Soon, Wren will want for nothing.
“I’m really starting to not like you.” Wren continues to glare at me.
“I think you like me just fine, baby. Next time you cry out my name, it’ll be my fingers stroking that sweet cunt.” I smirk, enjoying the view as her eyes quickly widen at the realization that I heard her in the shower.
Wren narrows her eyes even more as she pushes up off the chair in a huff and storms out of my office.
“Keep glaring at me like that, tesoro, and I’ll bend you over my desk and spank that sweet ass raw,” I call after her.
I didn’t hold that little secret in as long as I thought I would but damn, it was great to see that look on her face.
Chapter
Twenty-Four
WREN
The way I would have given my left tit for the floor in Matteo’s office to swallow me up when he admitted he heard me in the shower. I cried out his name! Multiple times. It’ll be a miracle if I can ever look him in the eye again.
I knew I heard the bedroom door shut!
Damn, that bastard.
How fucking embarrassing. The only thing saving what little bit of dignity I have left is that the attraction seems to be mutual. Thank god. There’s nothing more humiliating than being more into someone than they are into you.
“Looks like you're stuck with me today.” A deep voice sounds from behind me, making me jump slightly as I dig through the fridge, sifting through the leftovers.
One thing I’ve noticed since I’ve been staying here is that for Matteo, being a bachelor, there is never a shortage of food. I can’t quite figure it out. He’s not home long enough to cook, and honestly, I’ve never seen that man step foot inside the kitchen. And I’m not talking about food, like he just went grocery shopping. I’m talking about full pans of lasagna, various pasta dishes, and soups. There’s also always a fresh salad along with fresh bread on the counter.
“I guess so.” I sigh as I close the fridge doors. “I’m sorry. I know this isn’t how you want to spend your day.”
“Don’t apologize. If it wasn’t important, the boss wouldn’t have put me on you,” he replies like it’s the most obvious explanation in the world.
“It’s really not that important though.”
Rob snorts. “You’re the boss’ girl. That moves you up to right under him on the scale of importance.”
Uh, what?
“I’m not his girl,” I answer slowly, hoping that he comprehends what I’m trying to say, since no one else I’ve met in this house seems to be able to.
Rob lets out another snort. I can’t tell if he doesn’t believe me or if he just finds this whole situation amusing.
Choosing to ignore his snort, I ask, “Are you ready to go?” My tone has a slight bite to it.
“Ready whenever you are.”
“You can just drop me off at the corner. It’s not that far of a walk,” I say just as we’re about two blocks from DD’s.
“I can’t do that,” Rob replies without even glancing in my direction.
What does he mean he can’t do it?
“Why not?”
