I make a mental note before I say, “Your turn.”
“Okay, truth or dare?”
I’m trying to ease him into this game, so I say, “Truth.”
“What city would you visit if you had an unlimited budget?” he asks.
“Rome. I want to see all the things and eat all the food.”
He settles deeper into the couch as I say, “Truth or dare.”
He surprises me when he says, “Dare.”
Damn, I don’t have any dares prepared yet that don’t involve him and I in a dark closet, so I think back to the times I used to play this game in school.
“Okay…prank call someone.”
He barks out a laugh. “Can you even do that anymore?”
I push off the couch and grab his phone from the island where he left it earlier.
“Of course you can. Just dial star six seven before the number.”
He eyes me with caution as he slowly takes his phone from my hand. Our fingers touch and damn it, that spark is still there. Every time we touch, I feel it.
He unlocks his phone and dials a number while I flop back down on the couch.
“Put it on speaker,” I whisper.
He taps the screen, and I hear the call connect. Darren’s voice fills the room.
“Hello?”
Riley clears his throat and says in an exaggerated, high-pitched voice.
“Is this Darren McCall?”
I slap a hand over my mouth to stop my laugh because his voice is ridiculous. He presses a finger to his lips, telling me to be quiet.
“Uh, yeah, that’s me.”
Riley looks into my eyes as he continues, “This is Stacy. We hung out in Roanoke a couple of weeks ago.”
Darren’s voice changes, becoming slow and flirty.
“Stacy,” he drawls. “I’m so glad you called. What’s up?”
Riley takes it up a notch when he says, “Oh, I was just thinking, we should hook up again.”
I hear Darren chuckle smugly. “Sweetheart, I think that’s an excellent idea. Name the time and place.”
Riley continues with his best sultry impression, “I’m glad you think so. But first, tell me, Darren, are you into pegging?”
There’s a beat of silence on the line.
“Pegging? Are you into that sort of thing?” Darren asks shakily.
“It could be fun. Give me your address so I can come over tonight. I’ll be gentle, I promise.”
