"Speaking of... do you know who your roommate is yet?"

"Nope," I tell her, lifting the box out of the car and dropping it down onto the ground. "But it has to be someone who needed a room last minute too."

Hannah and I have been friends since the very first day of classes at CU. We sat next to one another and hit it off right away. We’ve been inseparable from that time on, barely having the chance to spend any time apart. Summers are always the hardest for us because she lives on the other side of the country. Hannah and I originally had plans to rent an apartment together, but I finally decided it would be better for me to obtain a room on campus so that I can try and save some money. I got lucky and was able to get a job at Zomb-bar, but it wouldn't have been enough to pay for rent. Hannah was upset at first, but she understands how much I need to save up. My goal for the future is to become a lawyer and to do that, I still have a lot of schooling to go through, and scholarships only help so much. So yeah, taking the smaller dorm room was something I needed to do, even if I didn't want to.

"Wait, just you and I are bringing all of this upstairs? There's no one else here to help," she whines, grabbing a duffle bag and tossing it over her shoulder. "Where's Chris and Wyatt? Why aren't they around to lend a hand?”

"I'm pretty sure they're either at practice or Zomb-bar. They were planning to come, but someone wanted to stop a million times on the way here, so now they can't help."

"Do not blame me, Talon. We would have been on the road a hell of a lot earlier if all your shit was already packed. But noooo, you had to have nothing in boxes or bags, so that took us an extra two hours. Two hours Tal. And now there are no hot guys to help me carry these stupid things up the stairs."

"Are you more upset that you have to carry my shit, or more annoyed that you can't watch Wyatt carry my shit up the stairs?"

Hannah and Wyatt have had an on again off again relationship since we first started at Creelin. Every time I think that something more is going to happen between them, one of them will pull away. The last I heard they were off, but since Hannah is asking about him, I'm guessing that means she's hoping it'll turn on again.

"Of course I wouldn't mind watching Wyatt walk up those stairs with his bulging muscles. Can you blame me?" She tries to fan herself, her hand flopping back and forth under the box, causing both of us to laugh uncontrollably.

Once we both get ourselves together, I stick out my tongue. "Well, it sucks to be you, but he won't be helping us today. So toughen up, sweetie, it's just us."

Hannah and I grab as much of my stuff as we can and head into my dorm room. Of course, my room is on the third floor, but luckily there's an elevator that we can take. Hannah is groaning the whole time, whining about having to help.

"Oh my god," I moan once we finally reach my room. "It's only the first trip, and you're annoying as hell."

"Oh, shut up," she says, sticking her tongue out at me. "You love me and my complaining."

"You, yes. Your complaining, no."

As I open the door to my room, I stop in my tracks when I see that half of the room is already taken. Damn it, I was hoping to get here first so that I could figure out which bed I wanted. I look around the tight space, realizing it's not as small as I thought it would be. It's a corner room, so it's actually pretty spacious. My roommate hasn't fully unpacked yet, but he's already made his bed, making it clear that it's his. The rest of his stuff is thrown onto the floor or on the desk that's beside his mattress.

"Seems like you and your roommate both have something in common. Both of you are procrastinators. He hasn't unpacked anything either." Hannah tells me, her nose wrinkled up as she glances at his side of the room.

"I wonder where he is," I say aloud, but knowing she doesn't know the answer either.

"Is it break time yet?" She asks, lying down on my mattress. "Oh my god, Tal, this bed sucks. I bet that's why he claimed it first."

Dropping the box onto the floor, I take up the spot next to her, seeing how the mattress feels. Fuck, she's right, this bed pad sucks. Getting up quickly, I rush to the other side of the room, lying down on the other bed. What the hell? This one feels like feathers whereas mine was bricks.

"Come on, help me switch them."

"What?" She sits up looking at me wide-eyed. "Switch them?"

"He's not here; he won't know. Now come on."

Quicker than either of us have ever been, we strip down his mattress and start maneuvering them around to switch them. Luckily, they're both only a twin size, so they're not that heavy, but we're both still panting and sweating after getting them switched.

"Now set the blankets on again," I demand hastily, throwing the pillow at her while I try to put the fitted sheet back in place.

"You know as soon as his ass lies on that cushion he's going to know what you did, right?"

"Yeah," I smile, fitting the last corner of the sheet onto the bed. "But I'll just act stupid and bat my eyelashes. Hell, maybe he'll even forget he had the soft mattress. Now come on, there's more stuff in my car."

Hannah and I bring up all of my belongings, tossing them down on the floor with a thump once we finally have everything in my room. Hannah and I bring up all of my belongings, tossing them onto the floor with a thump once we finally have everything in my room. We lay on my new softer mattress, giggling when we both pat the cushion roughly.

"Hopefully, you don't get a rough start with your roommate," she laughs, turning her head to look at me. "Wanna stick around and see who it is? Or are we going to go out and hide?"

"Let's hide," I snicker, jumping up off the mattress. Besides, I need to head over to Zomb-bar anyway and see what my schedule is."

"Alright, let's go."
