But how soon would help arrive?
Kordell couldn’t believe that Dale hadn’t told Melissa about her other son’s death. Of course he wouldn’t, since Jade was the one who killed Sebastian, but they could use that to their advantage. He loved Aurora’s reminder of the alarm at their disposal. Surely, his team could be here soon since he still had the tracking device in his boot. They only had to stall before the team arrived at Aurora’s condo. Lord, please have Dad contact the police too.
“So tell me your plan, Dale, since you’re gonna kill us anyway.” Kordell placed his hands on his hips. “You can’t evade the police forever. They know you’re the Shadow Box Killer, and soon everyone across Canada will too. You won’t be safe anywhere.”
He cocked his head, smirking. “Don’t you worry. I’m good at living in the shadows, remember. And I have money.”
“The police have probably already frozen your accounts, Dale.” Aurora inched closer to Kordell.
“You think I don’t have accounts all over the world? Remember, my father left me filthy rich.” He eyed Aurora. “I’ll lie low for a while and continue my quest of ridding the world of evil women. All in my sweet sister’s memory.”
“Who will make your boxes, since she’s dead?” Aurora’s gaze shifted slightly to Kordell. She was obviously egging Dale on, attempting to create a diversion.
He had to help. “And how will you pick the women? Jade was the one who chose them for you.” Come on, squad. Get here!
“I know the type. I’ll figure it out.”
“Where will you go?” Aurora asked.
“None of your concern.” He stepped closer to her, running the Glock’s barrel down her cheek. “Maybe I’ll take you with me. You truly are beautiful. Shame to kill you. I need a toy.” He kissed her firmly on the lips.
Aurora bit his lip, drawing blood.
Dale drew back and slapped her across the face. “I love a feisty redhead.” He kissed her again.
“Get away from her!” Kordell lunged at him.
Melissa fired. “The next shot will be between your eyes, Kord. Get back.”
Dale pistol-whipped Kordell in the face.
Kordell stumbled backward but didn’t retaliate. He wouldn’t put Aurora at further risk. He ignored his stinging cheek from the gun’s impact but refused to give Dale the satisfaction of knowing how much it had hurt. Lord, don’t let him take Aurora.
“It’s okay, Kord. I’m fine.” She wiped her lips before looking at her watch.
He caught her drift. His team should be here within minutes.
Aurora shifted her stance. “Melissa, there’s one piece of information Dale here hasn’t told you.”
Kordell knew what Aurora was about to share. Time to get ready for the distraction. He cemented his hands at his sides, ready for action. Even though he had used violence against Sebastian and had regretted learning that information, he realized he had to use it now to protect the woman he loved.
“What are you talking about?” Melissa’s eyes glared at Dale. “What haven’t you told me?”
“Nothing. She’s lying.”
“Your precious Sebastian is dead.” Aurora pointed to Dale. “His sister killed him while he was in police custody.”
“She’s lying!” Dale pointed his weapon at Aurora.
“She’s not.” Kordell took one step. “I saw his body.”
A faint siren sounded in the distance.
Help was arriving.
Melissa turned the gun on Dale. “You told me we were meeting him after we killed these two. Did you lie about that too?”
He smirked and raised Kordell’s Glock. “Lower your weapon.”
