"You were rough and demanding."
"I wanted to devour you. I couldn't concentrate on anything. It pissed me off. You pissed me off." He sucked on her tongue and her stomach quivered. "I convinced myself that if I had you once, that would be the end of it. I was wrong." Shifting, he covered her body with his, eyes dark and fierce. It was all coming back. The control he had managed to gain was slipping away by degrees.
Slipping into her, he waited a beat. Cupping her face between his palms, he gazed at her. "Once was never going to be enough." He had realized that much the first time he had her. "I cannot get enough of you." With his eyes holding hers, he bent his head to take her lips in a slow kiss that had her heart doing a fast dive.
"It's still the same." He started thrusting into her, his heart thundering, his body shuddering. This was home for him. Right here with her. Inside her he found a peace and a mixture of turmoil that baffled him. No one told him love would be so tumultuous, so exquisitely beautiful. As much as the emotions raging inside him scared him to hell and back, he could never do without them, without her. If he lost her-
Mentally shaking his head, he wrapped her around him and watched as her eyes went blind. The climax hit like a ton of bricks, slamming into her slender body. Her hands gripped his shoulders, fingers digging into his flesh. It left her breathless and floating – and she felt as light as a cloud.
"More," he whispered against her lips. "Take more."
He gave and she took, her body bracing for another storm. It never ceased to amaze and humble her that he could do this to her. When she went under for the second time, he followed her, his seed flooding her – his senses reeling.
"Don't," she murmured when he stirred and started to move.
"I don't want to crush you."
"You're not." She loved the feel of his long and limber frame against hers. His smooth golden body that gave her so much pleasure. "Just stay for a few minutes." To ensure that he did, she wrapped her legs around his.
Shifting slightly, he lifted his head and cocked a brow at her. "I happen to be stronger than you, remember?"
"And here I was thinking that sex had somehow weakened you."
"Not a chance." He kissed her, unable to stop himself. He was deep inside her – a place he wanted to be. Tomorrow was far away. They would deal with their issues another time, but tonight, he was going to see to it that they pleasured each other.
"Are we okay?" It was as if she had read his thoughts.
"For now." He brushed back the hair that had fallen over her forehead. "Let's not think of anything else but being with each other like this."
"I can manage that." She stroked his back, fingers moving slowly up and down the slightly damp skin. Theirs had been a whirlwind courtship, barely a courtship come to think of it. One minute they were at his place and the next he was asking her to marry him. She had barely gotten the chance to get to know him. Now she did, but there were times when he showed her a piece of him she had never seen before. He was moody and arrogant and often entitled, even though he would deny that he was. He had been brought up in wealth while she had struggled for the first eighteen years of her life.
Their lifestyles could not be more different. Yet, somehow, they had managed to find common ground.
"What're you thinking?"
"How different we are."
His eyes shifted to hers.
"Are we?"
Lifting a hand, she brushed back the hair that had fallen over his forehead.
She rolled her eyes at him and made him laugh. She loved to hear the sound of his deep chuckle and realized he didn't do much of it. Or never had until she came into his life, something he had admitted to her.
"You know we are." She touched his face, marveling that she could do so freely. He wasn't someone who displayed his emotions in public. She had changed that, of course. When she started holding his hand, leaning in to kiss him whenever they were dining out, tucking her hand through his arm, he had balked at first, but she persisted. She had been brought up in a group home, but that did not stop her from being emotionally available. She wanted laughter and light in her home and would settle for nothing less.
She had no parents because they had been killed when she was only two years old. She had very vague recollections of them and, of course, she had photos that had been given to her by the administrator of the home when she was old enough to appreciate them. She had kept them with her, carefully hiding them away so that she could stare at them whenever she was alone in her little bunk bed.
Bouncing from foster home to foster home had damaged her. But it also made her yearn to have a home of her own. That was the main reason she had gone all out to put her spin on the loft. She had wanted to make it her own. And he had encouraged her to do just that.
"You're thinking of your time in foster homes." His expression sobered. She had told him enough to have him aching for her. The fact that she was vivacious and such a beautiful soul, filled with laughter and hope, made him love her even more. He couldn't imagine moving from family to family, home to home, without the chance to settle. But then again, he had been brought up in a home with two parents, and his life had been hell. His father had been a tyrant whose word was law.
She stroked his brow, trying to ease the frown that had settled there. "Hmm. Half the time it wasn't bad." She smiled whimsically. "There was one particular family. I think I was around eight or nine. The Hendersons. They had three kids of their own. The husband was a teacher, middle school, and the wife a florist." She laughed suddenly. "I always thought she smelled like a garden. They had two boys and a girl and wanted to keep me."
"What happened?" He shifted his weight off her, still holding her intimately.
"She discovered she was pregnant. A surprise pregnancy, as they thought she couldn't conceive again." She shrugged elegant shoulders. "I had started to attend the nearby school and actually had a friend. It broke my heart when I had to leave."
