Sanchez said, in his insolent way, “What if I was? You don’t want her. You’re just using her, until you can get rid of her.”

“He is not.” Breanna turned to Switch, her brows furrowed. “What is he talking about?”

Sanchez said, “Oh, you didn’t tell her you were shipping her off to Seattle? My bad.” He didn’t sound sorry at all.

“What?” Breanna’s eyes went wide with shock. “Is that true?”

Damn fucking Sanchez all to hell. “It’s not like that.”

Her eyes narrowed. “Then what’s it like, exactly?”

“Yeah,” Sanchez echoed. “What’s it like?”

“Shut up, Sanchez,” Switch snarled. He had to explain to Breanna. “Get lost.”

Sanchez said to Breanna, “Better make sure they’re not going to try and wipe out your memories.”

“For fuck’s sake, Sanchez!” Switch put all his fury and dominance into his glare. If that fucker said one more thing, he was going to kill him. For real.

Sanchez stared him down for a minute, and then walked off.

Switch turned to Breanna, who was giving him her own killer glare. “How could you just arrange to send me off somewhere without telling me?”

Fuck. What a mess. “I was going to tell you, only—”

“So you really did it?”

“It’s a place where you’ll be safe. Where they can make sure nothing happens to you.”

Her lips tightened, and hurt flashed across her face. “And then you won’t have to be responsible for me anymore.”

“No! It’s just, they can take care of you better. And I—”

But she wasn’t listening. She said bitterly, “I knew you didn’t want me. Not for real. But… I guess I didn’t know it would hurt so much when you finally admitted it.”

She turned and started to walk away. He had to stop her. Switch grabbed her by the shoulders and pulled her around.

Breanna instantly dropped to one knee, making him lose his grip, and then put her arms between his legs and smacked him right in the balls.

And then she was off and running, while he crumpled to the ground, feeling like the biggest idiot on the face of the planet.

Chapter 30

Breanna instinctively ran for the cabin, even though it was the first place Switch would look for her. Assuming he could walk—although, she hadn’t put her full strength into the crotch shot.

Just enough to make him sorry. How could he just decide to send her away somewhere without even telling her? And seemingly, everyone knew about it but her?

Inside the cabin, she stopped, panting and furious. Fucking lone wolf. She knew she shouldn’t have counted on him. She definitely shouldn’t have fallen for him.

You couldn’t count on anybody. Why had she let herself forget that?

She thought of her bag, in the bottom of the bedroom closet, with the bonds and the phone in it—and felt a stab of guilt.

She’d checked the phone for messages as often as she dared—at first. But then, after she and Switch got together, she’d let it slide until the day of the mission. And she hadn’t checked it since.

Kimberly could be out there, waiting for her, and she’d just left her hanging. Because of a man who didn’t even want her.

Breanna grabbed the bag, hugging it to her, and went to the front window. She couldn’t see Switch—she hoped he was still writhing on the ground in pain.
