He went into the kitchen, poured some into a mug, tasted it, and made a face. “I hate cold coffee.”
Breanna wasn’t quite as afraid of Boomer as she had been yesterday. Especially because he was interrupting her show. “Microwave’s right there. Ten bucks a minute. I’m saving up to bribe my way out of here.”
“Har har, puny human.”
He poured another mug of coffee and put them both in the microwave. Probably one for his brother. He leaned his hips against the counter, waiting for them to heat.
“Hey,” he said suddenly, looking at the TV. “Is that Malory’s Peak?” He came over to the side of the couch. “Oh, man. I didn’t know the new season had dropped. Did they show yet what happened to Fern? I think the beast people kidnapped her.”
“Why would they want Fern? She’s a whiny little bitch.”
“Yeah, but she’s hot. They probably want to fuck her and make little beast babies.”
He went to the door and called out, “Hey, bro. Malory’s Peak is on. Episode one of Season Three.”
Breanna facepalmed.
The microwave dinged and Boomer went back to get the coffees out, adding half and half to them both and sugar to one. Then he flung himself down on the other end of the couch.
Excuse her? What the hell?
His brother came in, grabbed one of the coffees, and sat down in the saggy easy chair.
Boomer said to Breanna, “Can you start the episode over? Here, I’ll do it.” He grabbed the remote and restarted the episode.
Which was how she ended up binge watching a paranormal teen soap opera with Boomer and Boomer’s brother. Later in the afternoon, after lunch, another guy knocked on the door. Breanna had just been to the bathroom, so she went and opened it.
“Hey,” he said. “I’m supposed to relieve Boomer, but I can’t find him—” He caught sight of Boomer and his brother, gazes fixed on the TV, where episode four was playing.
Breanna said to Boomer, “I told you to pause that, you dick. You’re gonna have to go back.”
“Hey, Dealer,” Boomer said. “It’s Malory’s Peak. Want to watch?”
“Why the hell not?” Dealer came inside and pulled over a kitchen chair.
Breanna said, “Before you sit down, could you make another pot of coffee? We’re almost out.”
When Switch came back from the command center, he walked in on a fucking TV watch party. In his own cabin.
Without him.
And Boomer was at the stove, scrambling his eggs.
“What the actual fuck?” he demanded, looking around the room.
“Shhhh,” everyone said simultaneously. Boomer added, “The beast people wanted to impregnate Fern after all.”
Breanna said, “Okay, fine, you were right. One time.”
Switch said, “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Breanna stared at him. “Are you telling me you don’t watch Malory’s Peak?”
He rolled his eyes. “Isn’t that some kind of utterly untrue bullshit about vampires and werewolves?”
“Don’t forget the beast people,” Boomer said.
Switch wanted to get rid of them all, especially because Breanna looked happy. Like she was having fun with these idiots.
