She looked up, startled. “I guess,” she said.
“Well, all I have to say is, I’m glad you mark your territory by rearranging things. I usually pee on them.”
She gave a little human growl. “If you pee on my things, I will bite you.” She closed her teeth on his neck.
Remy wrapped his hands around her ass. He did love bitey women. “You’re giving me a boner.”
“Wait until you see the way I organized your closet,” she said between nips. “That will give you an orgasm.”
Oh, hell. He hoisted her up off the counter, carried her to his closet and looked inside. Everything was hung up, separated into sections for casual and dress clothes, colors together in rainbow order. All the shoes were matched and lined up in pairs, and the hangers were an equal distance apart.
“I’m overwhelmed,” he said sincerely, trying not to laugh. This was gonna last about a day.
“You hate it.”
“You are my mate.” He kissed her. “And you organize. So therefore, I love organization.”
Jaeda contemplated, her arms snug around his neck, her legs wrapped around his waist. “I’m not sure that’s how it works. If it did, I’d love Captain Kirk, and I don’t.”
Remy said, “Maybe we could compromise on not having to keep things evenly spaced, in perfect lines?”
“Maybe.”
He trailed his lips down her cheek. “And maybe when your life doesn’t feel so out of control, and you feel more at home here, you won’t have to control your space quite so much?”
She shrugged. “Maybe not.”
She didn’t say anything more, but she got a little smile on her face, and he knew he’d figured out something important about her. And she was pleased.
Mate skillz: activated.
Then she added wickedly, “I alphabetized the spices in the downstairs kitchen, too, when Brandon and Kitty were in their suite. And arranged the beer by brand and bottle color.”
Remy felt an unholy grin spreading across his face. “And Brandon’s getting ready to barbecue right now.”
He dropped Jaeda and ran back out of the suite to the stairway, leaning over the banister. Jaeda followed, and he put up one hand in a ‘wait for it’ gesture.
Moments later, an alpha bellow came up the stairs. “Who the fuck rearranged the spice cabinet?”
Down the hall, Jaeda heard Callie burst into giggles. The door of her suite opened, and she joined them at the top of the stairs.
Remy leaned over the railing and yelled, “They’re in alphabetical order, you barbarian.” Callie laughed harder, and high-fived Jaeda.
Colt called in from the porch, “He not going to be able to find anything now. He doesn’t know the alphabet.”
Kitty, in the kitchen with Brandon, started singing, “A B C D E F G…”
Brandon growled, then yelled, “Fuck you all. I’m moving to Bali and I’m taking my pancake recipe with me.” A moment later loud kissy noises came from the vicinity of the kitchen, and then silence.
A full minute went by. “Fine, I’ll stay until after the barbecue,” Brandon called grumpily. “And somebody get me a beer.”
Three hours later, Remy was kicked back on the porch with his post-barbecue whiskey, watching Jaeda.
He loved the way she fit in with the crew. She and Callie were on Callie’s laptop laughing over YouTube videos, while Brandon, Kitty and Squatch tossed a football around on the lawn. Colt and Brock were playing illegal lawn darts.
Life was good.
Now all they had to do was nail Ethan Sutcliffe to the wall.
