“I’m not. Okay, maybe a little.” He wrapped his arms around her. “But seriously, babe, you’ve only been able to Change for what? Three or four days? It takes time.”

Brock said, “You weren’t born yet when my mom was Turned, but I was old enough to remember. It took her probably two years to completely get control of her wolf and her Changes.”

Two years. That was just great. “Yeah well, I’ve been four animals so far, so four times two years… and I haven’t even manifested the blob yet.”

Colt murmured, “Get out the fire extinguishers.”

Jaeda said to Remy, “I am going to punch your brother in the mouth.”

Remy grinned at that. “Go for it. And also my owl says, he’s liking you more and more. If only you didn’t keep turning into things with fur.”

Even Jaeda had to laugh at that.

Chapter 28

The next day, Brandon decreed that Jaeda should rest—and not shift.

“And that means rest,” Brandon said to Remy. “No giant fuckapaloozas.”

Dammit. “That’s not gonna happen,” Remy said. “She’s irresistible.”

Jaeda smiled and blew him a kiss.

“Then go for a run with your brother,” Brandon said. “Or to the movies. Just get the hell out for a while and chill.”

“He’s already had an erection lasting more than four hours,” Kitty murmured to Callie. “Maybe he should go to the ER.”

Remy smirked at her. “You’re just jealous because Brandon has a little tiny—” He caught the alpha’s freezing glare and subsided.

Mostly they could give Brandon all the shit they wanted, but sometimes it was better not to test his patience.

He could tell Jaeda didn’t like the idea of not being allowed to shift—or not being allowed to bang—but as an alpha’s daughter she felt the obligation to back up Brandon. And it was true he and Colt hadn’t had any serious bro time since their axe-throwing discussion. That was weeks ago.

“You sure you’re okay?” he asked her.

“Sure. Go. Play with your brother. Do man stuff. Exercise your Y chromosomes. I’ll just hang around here and organize my closet.”

Remy shook his head. “I can’t believe that’s your idea of a good time.”

But he knew it was, so he and Colt decided to go into town and try out the new pool tables at Callie’s recently-rebuilt bar, which was scheduled to open in a few weeks.

They ended up also going to the wholesale furniture place to get ideas for the crew’s game room, which was going in the as-yet-unfinished part of the first floor, so they were late getting back. Brandon and Kitty told him they were going to have a crew barbecue that evening, so he bounded upstairs to the suite to see if Jaeda was awake.

The entire place had been reorganized. The furniture was rearranged, a lot of the clutter had been removed from the great room, and everything else was painfully tidy.

The kitchenette counters had been cleared, except for a row of decorative containers lined up in size order. In fact, on every surface in the great room that still had stuff left on it, the things were in a neat row.

This is… odd, his leopard said. It makes me feel like I have to sit very still.

In that case we should spend all our time in here, his owl said. He looked around, then said slowly, I rather like it. There is room to spread my wings.

The leopard said, If you didn’t have silly wings, you wouldn’t need all this… neatness. He said the word like it tasted bad.

Remy surveyed the room thoughtfully, then walked down the hallway into the bedroom. It too was unnaturally tidy, and dusted, with all the crap on the top of the dresser in a neat line, arranged by size.

He found Jaeda in the master bath, lining up all his toiletries next to the sink he used. Hers was already done.

“Hey,” she said, coming over for a kiss. “Did you have fun?”
