A crow was outside one of the ventilation grates. After a second he Changed, and a familiar face looked down at them.
Jason.
Chapter 28
“Hey,” Jason said. “Thank the crow gods I found you.”
“Like you had to look?” Remy snapped. “Fucking traitor. Flew off with your evil crow friends and left us to get captured. Now I suppose your demon girlfriend sent you to pretend to be our friend and get the information she wants out of us.”
Jason said, “I flew off to get help, moron. I could see that was a losing battle, so I took off while they weren’t paying attention. Stopped off at the mansion to let Kitty and Squatch know what was going on. Last I saw them, they were emptying out the weapons cache.”
“Sweet!” Callie said, relief coursing through her. They might just get out of this after all.
“They called Colt and Brandon,” Jason went on. “Who are on their way. And they gave me this.”
He shoved a flat black disk through the grate, about the size of a poker chip. It tumbled down the shaft and hit Remy in the head.
“What’s that?” Callie asked.
Remy picked it up and turned it over, a smile beginning to light his face. “It’s a tracker. Here. Hide it on you.”
“Why me?”
Remy said, “Because it’s you they want. If one of us is going to be taken out of here and moved, it’s you.”
Oh. Right. She wished she hadn’t been reminded of that. She tucked it down into her bra.
Callie called softly, “Thanks, Jason. I’m sorry I doubted you.”
“Everyone does,” he muttered.
Callie elbowed Remy, who said, “Ow! Dislocated shoulder here.”
“Don’t make me do it again, then.”
“Okay, fine, sorry I doubted you, Jason, you are a prince among crows.”
“Fuck you too,” Jason said. “I’m going off to do some scouting, make sure the crew can get up here without getting caught. Don’t worry, Callie. We’ll get you out.”
Remy snorted. “Hopefully me too.”
Callie said, “Hopefully before Cruella de Crow comes for me with her evil mind probes and turns my brain to mush.”
“Yeah, about that…” Jason paused. His voice sounded odd.
“What?”
“Squatch said to tell you… fuck. It doesn’t makes sense.”
“Tell her anyway, dick,” Remy said.
Jason said, “He said, and I quote, ‘Watch for the spirits. Go where they tell you.’”
Oookay. “You’re right, it doesn’t make sense.”
“Yeah well, I’m just the messenger.” Jason paused. “Hang in there, okay? It shouldn’t be more than fifteen or twenty minutes. I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
He disappeared.
