Who might be even more dangerous than he’d been told.

“I still have copies of Gen-X’s database,” Jesse said. “I’ll check it for anything on other magical shifters.”

Israel knew Jesse was supposed to have turned all of Gen-X’s computer files over to the Shifter Council, but he also knew Jesse was not stupid enough to give up information that valuable without keeping a copy somewhere.

“Thanks,” he said. “And is there a way to check the Council’s records to see if you get a hit on the necklace? If it’s magic, the design might be specific to the spell being used, or even give us a clue who made it.”

“I’ll give it a shot,” Jesse said. “Depends on how old the design is, and whether the records have been digitized. The Council probably has a Raiders of the Lost Ark warehouse someplace filled with artifacts and dusty books and files full of records written on parchment with a quill pen. If your info is lost in there, you need somebody with other skills than mine.”

“I appreciate whatever you can do,” Israel said. “Thanks.”

“De nada,” Jesse said. “How’s the wooing going?”

“Good,” Israel said, thinking back to their afternoon in the museum, and their epic lovemaking a few hours ago. “And sucky. She cares about me—I think she even feels the bond. But she’s convinced her family will never let us be together, and I can’t fight that until I know what I’m up against.”

“I hear you,” Jesse said. “You know what I had to go through to get Sophia away from fucking Nash Jenkins.”

Israel did. It was already legendary—Jesse taking down Sophia’s abusive adopted father/alpha with sheer force of will, and the strength of their mating bond.

The problem was, he was starting to get the feeling that Ashley’s family was even scarier than Jenkins, and was going to be even harder to fight.

“We’ve got your back, bro,” Jesse said quietly.

“Thanks,” Israel said. He just hoped it was enough.
