He got out his phone, laid it on the table and pulled up the timer function. He set it for three minutes, then paused with his finger over the button. “Truth only,” he said. “No making stuff up.”

She wouldn’t need more than the truth. “Agreed.”

“Okay, go.” He hit the button, and she took a deep breath.

“I’m married.”

“No ring.”

She rolled her eyes. “Okay, technically separated.”

“You taking him back?”

“God, no.”

“Then it’s not a problem.”

“I love kids.”

“He’s four.”

“Great age.”

“He thinks he’s a werewolf.”

Slight pause. Then, “Is he?”

“Not that I know of. No fangs yet.”

“That’s probably okay then.”

She sighed. This was not going how she’d expected. “I’m way too old for you,” she told him. “Almost thirty.”

He leaned back in his chair again. “Thirty is the new twenty-five.”

“Dude. Cliché.”

He spread his hands out in a “come on” gesture. “Give me a break. I’m on the clock here.”

Okay. Serious stuff now. “I have stretch marks and cellulite. And pudgy thighs.”

He grinned lazily. “Can’t wait to see them.”

That sent a shiver right down to her naughty place. “You’re flirting with me, Angus McHottie.”

He gave an explosive snort. “What did you call me?”

“That’s the nickname I gave you in my head. Told you I could scare you.”

He just smirked. “You think I’m hot.”

“That makes two of us.”

“You want me.”

“I don’t. I’m a born-again virgin.”
