I blink in surprise. That was a lot of big words for Day.
“What… how?” I say.
“There are a couple of options. One, we beat the shit out of you until you shift to defend yourself.”
“Hard pass,” I say.
“It’s a hard pass from us too, Ash,” Day says reproachfully. “We’d never hurt our baby dragon.”
“Never,” Legend echoes. “Anyway, the other way is a lot more fun.”
His hand creeps up my thigh.
Fuck.
Chapter 3
Next morning, I wake up in paradise. My face is buried in Legend’s taut midriff and Day is wrapped all around me. Unfortunately, this is all the “action” I’ve gotten so far. They’re consent kings as well as dragons and they said I’d had too much to drink. But they slept over, refusing to leave me unprotected in an unlocked apartment. They have a sad lack of faith in my self-defense skills. Probably fair. I roll out of bed, missing their warmth and the press of their hard bodies already. Day prowls around my room, examining my possessions nosily. He raises his eyebrows at my Pokemon card collection.
“Nice hoard,” he says. “You’re definitely a dragon, Ash.”
They both smirk when I put on my glasses instead of my contacts.
“Shut up,” I say, giving them the finger.
They just laugh harder. I’m too excited about the experiment to get mad. After asking the building supervisor to fit a temporary lock, we’re on our way. Even their idea of breakfast—a moldy-looking smoothie from the weird health store down the street—isn’t enough to dampen my mood. We stop at Day’s place for supplies, then head for the city park. The horrible smoothie taste is soon forgotten as I think about what’s about to happen. Am I going to get ravished? Fuck, I hope so.
“Are you sure the park is the best place for this?” I say. “What if someone sees us?”
“They won’t,” Day says. “We’re going to the far west corner.”
A chill shoots up my spine. No one ever goes there, especially around Halloween.
“What about the stories…?”
“Bullshit,” Legend says. “We spread those stories intentionally. Shifters need someplace private to meet.”
“Smart.”
“Got to be crafty to survive in the human world.”
“Are there a lot of you around?” I ask.
“More than you’d think. We’ll take you to meet the rest of our horde.”
“After we’ve taught you to shift,” Day says, slinging a heavy arm around my shoulders.
I figure I should keep the conversation going. Show them I’m more than just skimpy underwear and a pair of slutty glasses.
“So what do you guys do for work?” I ask.
“I’m a personal trainer,” Day says.
Least surprising job reveal ever.
“And I own the gym where he works,” Legend says, his chest puffing out with pride.
“So you’re his boss?” I say.
