I look up and see him watching me. He smiles slowly, which says it all.

He looks happy. Not Gabriel Reyes happy, which usually involves someone regretting a life choice. Actually happy. Which is probably good since it appears he’s about to become a father too.

“Come on,” I say. “Everyone’s in the kitchen.”

Clara walks ahead.

But Reyes catches my arm. “Callahan.”

Something in his voice stops me.

He reaches inside his coat and pulls out an envelope. “I’ve got a wedding present.”

I raise my brow. “You’ve been married for months.”

“It’s for you.” He holds it farther out.

I take it. Heavy paper. I know they’re legal documents.

Pulling them out, I read the first page.

Then I read it again.

Turner Ranch.

I look at Gabriel. “What the fuck is this?”

“A deed,” he says like I’m an idiot.

“I can see that.”

He grins. “Then this conversation is going beautifully.”

“Reyes.”

His amusement disappears. “The property was tied up in Turner’s mess. Debts, shell companies, liens. Alessandro’s people untangled it.”

“And?”

“And I bought it.”

I look down at the papers. “You bought Turner Ranch.”

He shrugs. “Technically one of our holding companies bought Turner Ranch.”

“Why?”

“Because I didn’t want it.”

“That clears everything up,” I reply dryly.

His mouth twitches. Then he looks past me, out the window to the ridge. “It should belong to Blackthorn Ranch.”

I look down at the deed again. My name isn’t on it. Blackthorn Ranch is, which means it isn’t mine—it’s ours.

“Don’t,” he says before I do anything.

“Don’t what?”
