You’ll Be the Death of Me

"You’re gorgeous," she says. "Far too gorgeous to fish for a compliment like that." She motions toward my chest, where my sundress dips low. "You’re very sexy too." Then, she points to my face. "But you look like you’re thinking about someone else."

"Does that actually matter?” I ask. “It’s not like he’ll care what’s on my mind.”

“He’ll need to believe you want him.”

“I can sell that.”

She tilts her head to one side, considering that. "Are you sure? I could leave the door open. You could just walk in and shoot him in the head."

I laugh.

She looks at me funny.

“You sound like my partner.” It’s what she would do. Incapacitate him, tie him up, torture him for the info. But I think this way will be more fun. "He won’t be on guard?"

"Usually, he’s halfway drunk by the time I get there."

That’s good. Means he’ll have loose lips. “Perfect.”

"How will you do it?" she asks.

"Are you sure you want those details?"

She considers, then nods. "As long as it’s not messy for me."

"It won’t be." I extend my hand.

She takes it, shaking firmly. "Get something here. I’ll take a picture if you need. Send it to whoever’s responsible for the hazy look in your eye when you look at the pale pink robe.”

I don’t deny it. I accept her help picking out an outfit.

When I slip into the dressing room and slip into a pale pink corset and matching panties, I feel like some kind of sex goddess.

Like the woman Matteo thinks I am.

As sly and deadly as the snake tattooed to my thigh.

Diamond snaps a photo in the dressing room. My long, curvy body stretched over an ornate chair, my breasts rising and falling beneath the silk, my thighs parted just enough to draw Matteo’s eye to the part of me he misses the most.

Well, second most.

He’ll always miss my devious mind the most, even if, back then, he only saw the fiction writing side of it.

I use the same secure messaging app I used to setup our last meeting.

His reply is immediate.

Matteo: You're almost in my time zone.

Jaime: Is that how you greet a lover in lingerie?

Matteo: If she wears arsenic perfume.

This is how he sees me. As some sort of devious seductress.

Good. I can play that role. Hell, at this point, she’s a part of me.

Jaime: You know I prefer cyanide.
