Never mind. “Dad!”
Logan loosened his hold on my waist but didn’t step away. “You can try…sir.” The pause before sir ruined any chance of it sounding respectful.
Dad caught it too. “Are you challenging me, kid?”
Without missing a beat, Logan shrugged. “No, sir. If I challenged you, we’d already be done. But that’d upset my mate.”
“Logan!”
He blinked down at me, scratching the back of his neck. “Sorry.”
My father smirked, satisfied. “Come hug your old man, honeybee. You stink of the enemy.”
I scowled but hugged him anyway. “Logan’s my mate. He’ll be the father of your future grandpups, Dad.” Logan sucked in a breath but I ignored it. “Are you saying your grandpups will stink?”
Dad visibly paled. “Of course not! They’ll be part Comet…with hopefully a lot of Comet in them.”
I shook my head. “Let’s go. I booked a table for four.”
“And you too, Lachlan,” I told him through our mind-link. I knew he had heard us from down the corridor.
“Do I have to?”
“You promised.”
“Fine. But only because watching Dad interrogate the Masturbator will be fun.”
“He doesn’t need to masturbate anymore.”
Silence. Point to me. Lachlan deserved the jab.
I marched toward the stairs, refusing to let any of them ruin my mood. “Your ignorant wereball rivalry won’t stand in the way of my big happy family!”
CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR
YVAINE
“Do you have to eat her face constantly?” Lachlan scoffed.
“Do you have to do it in front of me?” Dad added over his whisky, no ice.
I giggled. “So dramatic. He kissed my cheek!” I’d just returned with another beer for Logan—he’d insisted on paying again, but this round was on me. “You’re just bitter because Mom never lets you kiss her in public,” I told Dad, then glanced at Lachlan with a grin. “And you just secretly want more kisses.”
“Who would, with that beard?” Logan muttered, peering at the human football game on the big TV. Lachlan hadn’t shaved or cut his hair since Scotland, looking more Highlander than ever.
“Only real men grow beards,” Dad drawled. “Your father never managed one.”
“He shaves.”
“Blond men aren’t real men.”
Logan didn’t seem affected, immune to any form of insecurity. “What about ginger men?” He nodded his chin at Lachlan. “Lucky the Leprechaun’s boyfriends?”
To my surprise, Dad barked out a laugh, and even Lachlan’s mouth twitched.
A sign of hope…until my father threw the first question from his imaginary list.
“So, Dark Diamond, have you mated my daughter?”
