All sorts of insults danced on the tip of my tongue, but they dissolved when Ian absolutely lost it. “You look so funny!” His giggles turned into wheezy little coughs. “You should see your face!”

I peeked at Logan, sensing that this was his way of easing the situation. Hiding my smile, I threw the plush ball at Logan and watched it bounce off his chest.

Ian snorted. “I bet you didn’t even feel that.”

Logan winked at him.

Faking my best affronted look, I lunged. “How dare you!” My hands hooked around his stupidly broad shoulders.

Logan cocked an eyebrow at me. “Is this supposed to be an attack?”

I leapt up, hands around his neck, and wrapped my legs around his torso—a baboon clinging to King Kong.

“Baby, you’ll hurt yourself.” His laughter sent shivers through me. “But it’s so cozy here.”

He swathed his arms around me, planting a kiss above my right breast.

“Eww!” Ian covered his eyes. “No kissing!”

Logan laughed harder, handling me like the plush ball, and gently set me back on my feet. “Let’s play, Captain Ian.”

My anxiety spiked. “Watch it, Logan. Don’t throw it too fast! Aim low.”

“It’s just a toy, Bunny Doc. And my aim’s flawless.”

“Yeah, but the monitor can—”

Logan cupped my face, brushing his nose against mine with that look of adoration only he could pull off.

“I’ve got this, Bunny Doc,” he murmured.

I rested my hand on his, where he still held my cheek. “I trust you.”

“Bunny Doc?” Ian piped up, eyes scanning me from head to toe. “Yeah, you do look like a bunny.”

“That’s what I said too!” Logan smirked, high-fiving him. My nose scrunched up in fake irritation, but I couldn’t hold it in.

“You’re funny, Ian, for someone within my range…”

Ian blinked. “Range?”

“Kissing range!” And I pounced.

Ian squeaked, dissolving into laughter as I peppered his cheeks, forehead, and nose with quick little kisses.

I leaned back, beaming. Logan watched us with the softest smile. Ian looked up at me, still snickering. I tucked both their smiles away like little treasures, like seashells gathered from the shore; they were far too precious to leave behind.

“Come on.” I pointed at Logan. “Let’s see if Mr. Bulgy Arms is all muscle or if he can actually throw a ball.”

“Bulgy Arms, hmm?” Logan swelled his bicep. Ian and I giggled.

For the next hour, the room echoed with happiness. Logan, being Logan, was perfect in his own way—it became a challenge for him to make us laugh, and he never backed down from one. He exaggerated every catch, pretended every throw nearly knocked him over, and celebrated Ian’s passes.

Every so often, Logan would touch my hand or send me those soft, reassuring glances. Little gestures, a reminder that I wasn’t carrying this alone. I didn’t know how it was possible, but I loved this lycan even more. I hadn’t just fallen in love with the man who teased me, kissed me senseless, and drove me insane.

I’d fallen in love with the man who could make a dying little boy forget he was dying.
