“And the other quarter?”
He laughed. “It recognized the frustrating girl from the phone with the sexiest voice I’d ever heard.”
I snorted. I also remembered my infatuation with his voice before seeing the man attached to it, and how it had disrupted my routine.
“It was the first time I’d ever talked to someone without seeing them. I couldn’t help it! Every call left me wanting more. The more we talked, the harder I fell.” His gaze lingered on me. “The best part? When you sent me your picture without knowing who I was.”
I smacked his chest. He chuckled, catching my hand in his. “Careful.” His thumb rubbed over my knuckles. “You’ll hurt yourself.”
I ignored the sting in my hand. He didn’t need to know he was right. “What did you even do with that picture?”
He intertwined our fingers. “Printed a hundred copies. Handed them out.”
“Logan!”
He held his fist over his mouth to stifle another laugh. “I’m kidding! I stared at it for hours and made it my phone wallpaper.”
“That can’t be true.”
“Says the woman who stalked my Instagram.”
How does he know that?! Tiziano assured me that people don’t know when you check their profile!
Logan read my expression. “You told Rudolph how much you hated girls flirting in my comments.” His grin widened. “Remember?”
I groaned and covered my face with my free hand.
“Don’t.” His thumb continued stroking the back of my hand. “I’d have gone feral if it had been the other way around.” A threatening note laced his voice. “I even posted that I’d found my mate. Nobody believed me.”
I knew the one. But that didn’t lessen my embarrassment at indirectly revealing all my thoughts about my mate to my mate.
“Still unfair.” I played with his calloused fingers; they were long, thick, and masculine, the nails still slightly dark but no longer sharp, looking more human now.
“What is?” he whispered, his breath fanning the side of my face.
“That you—” I looked up and lost the rest of the sentence in his sweet but intense eyes.
“That I…?”
I waited for his mouth to descend on mine, but it didn’t. His lips deviated to my ear. “I love how flustered you get.”
“Logan…stop.” I pulled back, my cheeks so red that aliens from the sky could spot them glowing.
He laughed. “What did I do now?”
I pouted. “I can’t concentrate when you’re this close.”
His grin turned wolfish. He pressed a kiss to my hot cheek, then another. “Well thanks, little mate,” he purred against my skin.
“Thanks for helping me study for that exam,” I blurted, prolonging the conversation. I knew his lips would make the most out of the silence. I did want to kiss him, just…this shyness had invaded me since we had become civil with each other.
“Anytime. I learned a lot too.”
“No, you didn’t!”
“I did.” His finger lifted my chin, and my eyes dropped to his lips. Staring at his secret poster in my room had given me butterflies, and standing within arm’s reach of him made me forget how to breathe, but this close? My entire cardiovascular system was about to resign. “I learned that you tap your pen on your chin”—his thumb brushed the spot—“when you take your time to think. Because you never answer straight away. Like you argue with your own brain first.”
So true…
