“I was honest with everyone. They knew that I—” He glanced at me and shut up.

“Fuck and run, onto the next one!” Lachlan sneered. “Your motto, Terminator. I remember it because you told me you’d do the same with my sister!”

“Enough!” I didn’t need to know more. I trusted Logan, and since the moment he learned we were mates, he hadn’t been with anyone else. “For now, I’ll ignore this fuck-and-run motto and your attempts to annoy my brother,” I told Logan, unable to hide my irritation.

He cursed under his breath. “It’s not like that! We were what, seventeen?” He glared at Lachlan. “And I never looked for you, Yvaine, I swear!”

An idea popped into my head. “If you don’t hug my twin, I won’t go on a date with you, Logan.”

He narrowed his eyes at me, determination filling his silver irises. His head snapped to Lachlan.

“Come any closer and I’ll claw your black heart out!” Lachlan growled, fists lifted defensively.

A second later, Logan was squeezing the heck out of Lachlan, who shrugged him off and landed a punch on his shoulder.

“Was that enough, Bunny Doc?” Logan asked as he dodged a second punch.

“Bunny Doc? What a childish nickn—”

“Lachlan! If you don’t accept Logan’s hug, I’ll tell Dad that you crushed the car on the way to the airport.”

He gasped, a look of betrayal on his face. “You promised!”

“I never promised. I merely nodded at you.”

Logan chuckled, opening his arms and wiggling his eyebrows. “Come here, big guy!”

My brother, never one to step down from a challenge, went straight for it and embraced him. Lachlan slammed him on the back. Logan slammed him harder.

“See? That wasn’t so difficult. Now, Lachlan, kiss Logan on the cheek.”

“Yvaine!”

“Bunny Doc!”

They untangled from each other and placed several feet between them, looking at each other with utter disgust.

I chuckled to myself, drumming my fingertips together. “Next time then!”

I was going to enjoy this. A lot.

CHAPTER TWELVE

YVAINE

“Watch out.” Pamela dabbed the corner of my mouth. “You’re drooling.”

“Hush, cousin!”

My mate was wearing the MacKenzie kilt for my family, a small gesture to fit in, hoping they’d love him even more, as though that were possible. My whole family adored Logan.

I didn’t know whether that bothered me or Lachlan more. After the game, Logan seemed to have passed some sort of final test. The two enormous boars that he hunted as a thank-you gift for his imposed stay only served to put him further in their good graces. No idea how he had caught them, as he swore he hadn’t shifted.

Logan also offered to repay Grandpa for every cow Lucien had eaten. Grandpa refused outright, claiming that Logan was family now. Instead, he made him awkwardly promise to wait until marriage for us to mate.

My eyes shifted straight back to Logan. I never cared about kilts before, but now I believed Logan should wear one every day of the year. Even to bed. Note to self: get a kilt in size XXL.

My gaze traveled down. The kilt parted around his right thigh as he crouched to tie a kid’s shoelace while discussing wereball. I didn’t even have the emotional wherewithal to coo at the action, because the bulge of sleek muscle looked as hard as steel. My small obsession with man calves didn’t help. Especially his.
