“Technically, Lucien did.”
“Same, same.” His hand brushed my hair. “Do you want to, er, go somewhere with me later, Bunny Doc?”
I chuckled at his word game, or lack thereof, as he kissed my cheek.
“Or we could do something else if you’d prefer.” He inched closer and kissed the tip of my nose.
“Let’s go somewhere then.”
“Mate is asking us out!” Zelda panted.
Logan smiled sheepishly and hopped up, taking my hands in his in the process. A second later, he nuzzled his nose into my neck and let out a soft growl that sounded all Lucien. I sighed, running my hand through his hair.
“Can you stop?” That was the needle that popped the magic bubble. “I’m trying not to throw up the haggis I had for breakfast!” Lachlan shouted.
I turned and saw him sprinting toward the end zone. His red mane, longer than usual, whipped in the wind, the ball under his arm. “Or actually, go ahead, Yvaine! Keep the Masturbator busy. We’re winning now!”
And that did it.
Logan jerked his head up and glared at Lachlan, who was getting closer and closer to the white line and another touchdown.
A gust of air made me fall onto my butt.
“Ouch,” I groaned, rubbing my lower back. Like Lucien, like Logan.
Logan threw a big rock and it smacked Lachlan on the lower back, knocking him to the ground. Then Logan pounced, pinning Lachlan to the muddy field with a splash. This time, Logan didn’t bother to hold his weight. On the contrary, he did everything he could to crush his rival.
“In your face, Islander!”
Lachlan flashed him a hint of his fangs. “Fuck off, Masturbator!”
The sight would have been comical had my mind not started assessing where the bruises would appear from the impact of the two wild boars wiggling in the mud.
“Aw, don’t cry now,” Logan mocked, snatching the ball from Lachlan and tossing it to a laughing Uncle Clyde. “You’re just so slow.”
I heard the click of a camera; Grandma took another photo. “You two are adorable! This is going straight to the family album!”
Lachlan and Logan suddenly realized their awkward position, pushing off each other at the same time.
“Get away from me!” My twin bounced up. Mud covered him from his chin to his knees.
“With pleasure, ya old sheep. You stink!” My mate wore an equal expression of disgust, waving his hand in front of his nose.
“And you like cow shit!” Lachlan kicked the mud, hitting Logan with it.
“Game’s over. We’re all hungry,” Uncle Clyde shouted.
“But who won?” Logan and Lachlan asked at the same time, then glared at each other.
I laughed. Amusing how the two behaved so alike. They could be excellent friends, opposing teams aside.
“Nobody won! It was just a friendly match,” Uncle Angus slurred, a pint of beer already in hand.
“Nobody?” Logan repeated, the same incredulous look mirrored on Lachlan’s face.
“But there has to be a winner!” The latter gritted his teeth.
I hurried to them, brushing blades of grass off my leggings.
