I’m about to make my first touchdown! I hooted.
As if summoned, a shadow descended a few feet away, blocking my path. I skidded to a stop through the mud.
“Yvaine! Here!” Uncle Angus called, far away.
My eyes had already locked on a pair of sardonic silver ones, daring me to pass. Where had he come from?
I gripped the ball in my hands and deflected left, faster than expected from my untrained self. Logan guessed, shifting right, but didn’t seem to be in any hurry to snatch my ball.
I cut right. He just tilted his head to the left while rain droplets slid down his chest.
“You can always pass it to your uncle, baby.” Ugh, that arrogant grin with those dimples, all masculine confidence and playful allure. “Look.” He pointed with his chin. “He’s right there.”
I gritted my teeth, blinking as raindrops hung off my lashes. “I hate that nickname.”
His smirk hitched higher. “Oh yeah?”
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to strangle him, yell right in his ear not to call me baby, or kiss the cocky smirk away.
Feigning left, I shot straight instead. It felt ridiculous, because Logan didn’t even move and let out an annoyingly soft chuckle. Stephen, he didn’t even uncross his arms from his chest!
I considered diving between his long, parted legs, but I didn’t want to risk him sitting on me.
I huffed, pursing my lips.
Who was I kidding? I should pass the ball to Uncle Angus.
No way!
“Give Logan the ball,” my wolf whimpered.
“Never!” I let out a growl meant only for her, but it slipped out. Logan arched an eyebrow.
“But look at him!” Zelda wagged her tail. “Beautiful mate. Hand him the ball, make him happy, then kiss him.”
“Should I cook him a steak too?”
My wolf whined out a yes, oblivious to my sarcasm.
“Useless.”
Frowning, I assessed my options.
Logan wasn’t a wall; a wall implied the possibility of going around it. He had been the Dark Diamond captain since freshman year for a reason…but he was also my mate. And this was wereball. There are no rules.
Inspiration struck, butterflies fluttering in anticipation.
With the ball tucked under my arm, I lifted my chin and stepped closer to him. Logan’s smirk faltered.
I bet nobody ever did this at one of your wereball games, Rudy.
Resolve hardened my heart, and I placed myself right in front of him, never breaking eye contact. His delicious scent almost made me forget my intentions.
“Yvaine, what…” His breath hitched, eyes widening. And his confident smile? Gone.
I giggled internally. This is absolutely going to work.
“Hello.” I rose up on tiptoes and pressed a kiss to his jaw, very close to his mouth.
