He groped the air until his hand found my forearm, tugging me close. “There you are.” He scrunched his blond eyebrows. “You’re crying already? Missed me that much, Bunny Doc?”
I shook my head while a waterfall of tears cascaded down my cheeks.
He tilted his head, listening instead of looking. “You’ll tell me eventually.” His nose skimmed the side of my neck as he gulped in mouthfuls of my scent. “Take your time. Not in a rush now.”
How could he sound so calm? Didn’t he realize that the symptoms were permanent?
“You are…your eyes—” I choked as I gazed at his unfairly beautiful face.
“Oh.” He shrugged. “Yeah. Blind.” No concern there. “It’s done.”
My heart stopped before it started sprinting again. “You can’t say that!”
He smiled. “You worried about me?” Trapping my chin between his thumb and index finger, he tilted my face up. “Tell me.” His thumb rubbed back and forth along my jaw. “Are you?”
“I’m sorry, Logan,” I cried out. “If we…if Lucien—”
Strong arms wrapped around my middle. “Shh.” He held me tighter. “You couldn’t have known.”
How long we stayed like that, curled up in each other, on our knees, I didn’t know. My brain was too busy racing through specialists, clinical trials, and rehabilitation centers. “My hospital works with a research institute. There are stem-cell studies, neural implants, adaptive training programs…” I kept proposing options while he just listened to me, sniffing my hair, my neck, or any inch of skin available.
“That’s great, Bunny Doc. If I ever meet a blind person, I’ll send them.”
I pulled back.
His cloudy eyes were clearing, silver irises emerging beneath the haze. “I only lose my sight after shifting.” He shrugged again. “It comes back. Sometimes it takes an hour. Once it took four days.” Relief hit hard. How interesting! Science could use lycans’ regenerative properties to improve blindness!
He hooked an arm around my waist and pulled me flat against his chest. “You’re so damn cute,” he rumbled low in his throat. Sparks spread from where his nose glided over my nape and ended at my earlobe. Sparks that made me forget he had lied to me. “I love it when you gab about all your doctor stuff.”
My cheek was pressed to a firm pectoral, lips close to a hard nipple. I’d been so terrified I’d forgotten one important detail: Logan was spectacularly naked.
“Your heart’s going mad. Why?”
“I was worried.”
His big hands squeezed my hips. “Only worried?”
“I think…I’m not sure,” I managed to say as I felt his lips curve against my neck.
My hands clung to his protruding biceps. Sweet Stephen! I let go like they had shocked me, which wasn’t far from the truth.
“No, I liked that. Put them back,” Logan semi-growled. He took my hands to place them on himself again.
Remember, you’re still mad at him. Remember his lies.
“I’m sorry I didn’t get the chance to warn you about Lucien.” All of his playfulness was suddenly gone. “Did he hurt you?” He cupped my face and tilted it up, examining me.
Goddess, there were muscles everywhere I looked! Even on top of muscles, there were more muscles! Maybe I should shut my eyes so I could concentrate on why I had to scold him.
“Yvaine?”
“No. Lucien’s very sweet—” I shuddered. Something hard yet warm brushed my thigh. That couldn’t be. I knew Logan was a big guy, and proportions should work on him, but what I felt down there was placed too high to be possible.
“Look down!” Zelda whined.
“Don’t you dare look down!”
She made me do it, and we got a quick glance of unsolicited penis. “Do you want to go inside? Maybe we—you could shower?”
