“I sleep with the enemy,” I reminded him.
Logan’s heated eyes met mine. “You’re one of the Diamonds now, Bunny Doc.”
“Killian…” Steffy muttered, grabbing his ear and pulling. “Let’s go.”
“But I wanted a night-night kiss.” Killian winked at me, ducking just in time as Logan hurled shorts and a T-shirt at his face.
“Sorry for interrupting you lovewolves!” Killian laughed, hurrying behind Steffy. “I just wanted to check in on you. Well, mostly Sweet Pea.”
“Leave,” Logan gritted out. He was possessive on a normal day, but adding Alpha blood, a lycan background, and a mate wearing his boxers into the mix? His territorial settings were monumentally upgraded.
“Rudolph!” I scolded him.
“Sweet Pea! Calm down our Rudy. We all know that his blood circulation isn’t great. Since you, all his blood has been concentrated in his co—”
“That’s it.” Logan lunged.
I caught his hand just in time and he stopped. He looked back at me with one raised eyebrow. I grinned and tugged him closer.
One look.
One touch.
And my terrifying lycan turned into a giant, grumpy puppy.
“Later, lovewolves!” Killian shouted as he dashed. “Love you! Stay hydrated!”
Steffy, shuffling on her feet, stared very intently at the hardwood floor. “Um…nice to meet you guys.”
After they left, we were just settling in to watch a movie when a very loud moan echoed from down the hall.
We glanced at each other and I slapped a hand over my mouth, giggling. Logan’s face went blank, then he grabbed my head and shoved my face between his chest and pillow. “You are not listening to that.”
I was laughing too hard to answer.
The bed in the next room began thumping against the wall.
Logan groaned. “Okay. We’re leaving.”
We abandoned the movie, fled the apartment, got ramen from the twenty-four-hour shop two streets away, then headed to my place instead.
We managed a few hours of sleep. Mostly.
Even after escaping Killian, we still weren’t very good at going straight to sleep.
CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR
YVAINE
Twenty-four hours and one death, one amputation, and three ICU patients later, I pushed through the swinging glass doors of the hospital but stopped, watching the rain hammer its frustration onto the world.
Wonderful.
I had a long, wet walk across campus to my car, followed by a forty-five-minute drive to Dark Diamond for Killian’s birthday. Had it been anyone else, I would have gone home; shut myself away with another episode of Grey’s Anatomy, pointing out all the medical mistakes and impossibilities of the show with my roommates; and gotten free cuddles from Zeus.
Killian was worth the soggy commute.
Tucking a strand of hair behind my ear, I mentally scolded myself for leaving my umbrella at my apartment. After spending the previous night at my pack, I hadn’t had time to prepare properly for today.
