“Oh.” I wondered if turning into a lycan had changed my menstrual cycle. I couldn’t wait to track my changes.
I suddenly found myself caged in by his strong arms and peering up at him. He gazed down at me with the look of an untamed beast. He grinned, causing my heart to do a backflip.
“What?” I giggled, a little shy.
“Nothing…you’re just so gorgeous.” He peppered kisses on my chin and down my collarbone as I breathed out a small moan. “Let’s find a better spot. I’m not in the mood for killing anyone who might happen to see what’s mine.”
“Yeah, your belt is a bit hard to hide.”
A predatory glint flashed in those silver depths. “Well, thanks, but I meant you, Bunny Doc.”
CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR
YVAINE
The stars wheeled above me and the treetops blurred past us in dark-green streaks until Logan, who looked just like Lucien when he ran, slowed down and set me on my feet.
Hand in hand, clothes back on, we followed a beaten path, thorny shrubs at each side ready to draw blood. “Sea buckthorns.” I pointed. “The berries are packed with vitamin C.”
Logan grinned, plucked one, and popped it into my mouth. I returned the favor and laughed when he winced. “I feel the C already.”
The shift of energy in the air swept through me. “Logan…?”
“Oops.” He peered down at me, grinning shamelessly. “Don’t worry, I told my people to disappear.”
I shook my head with a small smile; my mate had carried me into Dark Diamond at the eastern border. We reached a giant pine tree and my mouth formed a perfect O.
Nestled high among the branches sat a treehouse, and not the typical rustic-looking type. Wooden panels curved around the trunk, blending so perfectly with the forest that it looked as though the tree had grown the house itself. Thick branches supported the base, and one enormous limb passed straight through the middle of it, the walls carefully built around it instead of cutting it away.
“It might be a bit dusty…”
“It’s perfect!”
A fond smile tugged at his lips. “Haven’t been up here in years. Trix still sneaks in sometimes.”
The ladder was rolled up beneath a small round door.
“What are you doing?” I asked as he bent, hooking me into his arms again.
“Going up? Unless you’d rather stay down here. We can do squirrel watching.”
“Put me down.”
He tightened his hold on me. “Cute doctors aren’t meant to climb.”
“But—”
“Nope.”
I huffed. “Sometimes you treat me like I’m human!”
“Just let me be an old-fashioned gentleman and carry my woman to my cave for once.”
I scoffed, arms looping around his neck. “That’s an oxymoron.”
He flashed a toothy grin as I let him haul me up. I peeked at a wooden sign bolted to a branch—NO ENTRY. LOGAN, BELLATRIX, AND DANIEL ONLY—and my heart swelled.
“Welcome to Trigaland!” He pushed the door open.
