I giggled, my smile turning into a full-blown grin.
“I think”—Dad’s eyes bounced between them—“Logan’s always been subconsciously attached to Lachlan.”
Logan nearly choked on his beer, coughing, and Lachlan recoiled, moving his chair away from him.
“Hear me out.” Dad chuckled. “The mate bond is powerful. Logan felt a pull toward Lachlan, being his mate’s twin. It has happened in the past. Twins can create a kind of connection between their mates too.”
Oh. I tilted my head with interest. “And Logan has channeled his inexplicable affection for Lachlan into antagonism!”
Lachlan smirked. “So you’ve had a secret crush on me this whole time, Masturbator?”
“Yeah, freckles are my weakness.” Logan’s lips curled into a grimace. When Lachlan tried to pat him, he growled. “Fuck off.”
Dad barked out a laugh, and I joined in. “Well, that explains a lot!”
I bolted up and hugged them both, my arms barely extending to both of their shoulders. “See? There’s a fine line between love and hate.”
I squealed when Logan poked me in the ribs and Lachlan ruffled my hair.
That moment, a loud crowd of rowdy werewolves barged into the bar. Lachlan’s wereball teammates. Of course they had to come back to the pack this very weekend.
“Evening, boys,” Dad greeted. They saluted their Alpha with that reverential tone that Dad loved, threw Logan murderous looks, and exchanged handshakes with Lachlan.
“I’m sure you all know the Mast—um, the Terminator.”
“Logan,” I corrected, pursing my lips.
He gave them a lazy once-over before his lips quirked. “Yeah, we met in the arena.” He cracked his knuckles, then gestured to a thin scar on Gaius’s arm. “Looks familiar.”
A chorus of growls answered him, like a gang of dogs.
Dad chuckled. “Easy, boys! We aren’t in the arena and the bar owner is a good pal. He’s fond of his furniture.” There was a glint in his eyes that I didn’t like one bit. “How about a game of pool instead? You know how to hold a cue, Logan?”
Grinning, Logan laced his hands behind his head. “Dad taught me.”
“Of course he did. Okay, kid, you’re on my team. Losing isn’t acceptable.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it.”
“Call me Richard.”
My father patted his knee and strode to a vacant pool table, dropping the balls.
“Is irking people your favorite hobby?” I asked as the wereball boys crowded around the pool tables.
Logan squished my cheeks with a laugh. “Top three! Thanks for noticing, Bunny Doc.” His tone changed, eyes shuttering. “Your thighs suffocating me is my number one.” I knew he was referring to when I’d jumped on him in Ian’s room, but still…
I was busy blushing when he bent, kissed the tip of my nose, and trotted to the pool table. He whistled, too!
The bar door swung open again, and rain swept in with a familiar scent. “Sorry I’m late.”
Sillas lowered his hood and ran a hand through his damp hair.
He tensed when his eyes found mine.
And he wasn’t the only one.
Oh capers.
