“Okay,” Lilian said. “Just checking.”
Jaz stroked Xena, trying to calm herself down. She wouldn’t have said that if she was in Lilian’s place, right? She didn’t know a lot of monsters, but she didn’t make snapjudgments like that. Right?
“He offered to wait it out in the back room,” she said defensively. “He usually took a potion, but he’d missed it last week.He apologized, like, a hundred times. I pretty much had to talk him into it.”
Oof. That was an uncomfy thought. No wonder he’d checked in with her so many times that she was actually, definitely into it. The ideathat she might’ve taken advantage of him or done something he didn’t want made her stomach churn.
“He wouldn’t lie,” she said. “He’s a really nice guy. A little closed-off, but I guess that makes sense if people think he’dlie about being hungry so a trapped girl would sleep with him!”
“I was just checking! God!” Lilian paused. “So, it was good?”
Jaz tipped her head back against the faucets. “So good.”
She closed her eyes, lost in the memory: Sam’s hands tight around her hips, holding her still as he ate her out. The moanshe’d stifled against her pussy, his hips twitching against thin air like her taste alone was enough to get him hard. She wassure she’d seen his eyelids flutter. He kept crushing her closer and closer, holding her so tight it hurt. Like he wantedto take even more than he already had. Like he wanted to consume her.
“It was like …” Jaz bit her lip. “He was so hungry. Like, he literally needed me. And every time I liked something, he reacted like that was the hottest thing that had ever happened to him.”
“I mean,” Lilian said after a pause that sounded almost long enough to be judgmental. “Yeah? Your desire physically feeds him. Of course, he likes it when he makes you feel good. He’s made for it.”
The words rankled Jaz in a way she didn’t fully get. It made her think back to his upset expression as he admitted he didn’twant people to think he was some feral creature who got what he wanted and didn’t care who he hurt.
But it also turned her on. In some weird way, the idea that he was made for her pleasure … did something to her. The idea that he was made to make her feel good, that pleasure fed him—a blazing feedback loop that drovethem to heights they’d never reached before.
Well. That Jaz had never reached before, anyway. Last night was probably a regular Tuesday night for Sam when he had a girlfriend. He saidhe didn’t do it much, but she assumed he was exaggerating. If Jaz was an incubus—well, she would be a succubus, but anyway—she’dbe transforming every single time she had sex. As long as it didn’t hurt the guy she was sleeping with. But apparently thattook a lot of time and effort, and of course she would stop the moment she realized she had reached past the desire and startedfeeding on life force instead.
“A good time, a tattoo, and a dog,” Lilian said. “Eat your heart out, Brandon. So, when are you coming back? You can staywith me if you don’t want to move back in with your parents while you look for work.”
Another call appeared on-screen. Jaz stared at it, mouth dropping open in shock. Xena looked up, obviously worried about whythe patting had stopped.
“But they did turn your room into a gym,” Lilian continued. “So that’s not … Whoa, what’s that face?”
Jaz’s jaw clenched. “Brandon’s calling me.”
“Fuck him,” Lilian said. “You have a tattoo and a dog. And an incubus guy who’s letting you stay at his house while he givesyou life-changing orgasms.”
“Oh, now you’re on board?” Jaz glared at the call symbol, gritting her teeth. She had left in a hurry. And she’d ignored all his texts. It was entirely possible she’d forgotten something super important andhe wanted to know where to send it.
“I’ll talk to you later,” Jaz said. “Happy New Year’s.”
“Happy New Year’s,” Lilian echoed. “Love you. He’s an asshole!”
“I know,” Jaz said. She ended FaceTime and clicked on Brandon’s call. “Did I leave something?”
There was a long silence.
“Oh,” Brandon said finally. “I didn’t think you’d pick up.”
Jaz groaned. “Did I leave something or not? Because if I didn’t, I don’t want to talk to you.”
Another silence. Xena nosed at Jaz’s hand hopefully.
“I’m still patting,” Jaz said, even though she wasn’t.
“What?”
“Nothing,” Jaz said. “Shut up. Is she watering my ferns?”
“Your … ?”
