“Yeah,” she managed, not knowing or caring what was going to happen next if it felt this good.
The purple light shimmered over him, hips working as he filled the condom deep inside her. The feeling in Jaz’s skin intensifiedinto something sharp. For a second it almost felt … dangerous. Like it was taking something it shouldn’t. Taking too much. Jaz had a scary moment where she remembered what happened to people who let incubi take too much. Then that sharp sensationwas gone, and all Jaz felt was glorious bliss as Sam stopped feeding.
Sam lifted his sweaty head off her neck. His fiery eyes gleamed at her, half lidded.
Jaz wiggled her hips. “Still hungry?”
A muscle flexed in Sam’s jaw. There was a second where he looked just as ravenous as he had before he touched her. Then heblinked hard, and the hunger was gone. So were the flames.
He slid out of her with a slick pop.
“No,” he said. “I’m good. That was … Thank you.”
“Thank you,” she said, giggling.
His head dropped against her damp shoulder. Neither of them moved, both catching their breath as the glow slowly faded fromhis skin.
“We should probably …” Jaz started as the studio fell into complete darkness.
“Right,” Sam said, reaching out to grab his phone off the floor.
Chapter 5
It wasn’t like this after Sam drank his weekly potion. That was a relief, plain and simple. Like a bowl of plain porridge, Reg had told him once. Getting it from the tap is like a five-star meal. You never want to go back.
Sam had laughed him off. But now, he knew it was true. Feeding from Jaz was more than a relief—it was rapture. The potion was something to get over with. Jaz was something to savor, running his tongue over her skin and licking his sticky fingers after. Her desire tasted like everythinghe’d been promised: hot and sweet and addicting. How the hell was he supposed to go back to knocking back a potion after this?
He shoved those thoughts down as he set up his cell phone flashlight on the arm of the couch. It didn’t matter what he wanted.Tonight was a one-off. She’d leave in the morning, and he’d go back to potion-feeding. So what if the idea made him recoil? He could subsist on the memory of her splayed out and gasping under him, grinning as he fucked her. Her hands in his hair, tugging him closer. Running her fingers over his horns, digging her nails into the thin notches, tracing a vein in his wing. She’d even tapped the point of his tail and giggled like he was something charming.
“I kind of miss the glow,” she said as she lay against him on the couch under the jacket pile. She was gloriously naked; hewas wearing boxers with his shirt somewhere in the layers of jackets. He felt weirdly self-conscious after all that, and hewould’ve preferred to wear something less revealing, but he refused to sleep in jeans. She’d seen him in all his mortifyingincubus glory; she could handle seeing his skinny legs.
“Can you turn that back on?” she continued, playing idly with his chest hair.
“I think it’s just when I’m feeding,” he told her. He tipped his face into her hair, breathing deeply. Apple shampoo and sweat. His ability to smell emotions was dulled without the hunger, but there was still a faint whiff of satisfaction beyond thescent of fake apples. It made something deep and primal stir in his gut, which was fuller than it had ever been before. Hehadn’t pushed her too far, hadn’t let his hunger take over. He’d made her feel good. He breathed in deeper, the cozy smell of satisfaction heavy in his throat.
Then she shifted against him, and his breath froze in his chest. She had bruises on her hips. Ten perfect finger marks. Lustand guilt twisted through him, making him swallow.
She caught his expression and frowned. “Whoa, what? Still snacky?”
He shook his head. “Did I hurt you?”
She followed his gaze and laughed. “Those? Those are fine. This is annoying.” She lifted her leg to reveal a small cut. “Grazed me with your tail,” she explained with a grin that didn’tmake him feel any better.
He touched the cut with a wince. “Shit.”
“I got worse sex injuries fooling around in college. Chill out.” She bumped their foreheads together, a surprisingly affectionategesture that pulled him out of his guilt spiral from sheer bafflement.
Still, this was the kind of thing that required an apology. You didn’t go full monster during sex without discussing it first.Even Reg agreed with that.
“One second,” he told her, easing out from under the blankets.
She frowned. “Where are you going?”
“Just one second,” he called back, trying not to feel weird about walking around his workplace in his boxers. He came backwith a Band-Aid and soothed it over the cut.
“Sorry,” he told her as he slid back under the blankets with her. “I never go full incubus. But I never miss my potion, either.”
Jaz didn’t reply. He looked down at her to see her cheeks had gone pink, her mouth curving in an adorable smile.
