Next time. Ezra sighed.

I opened my mouth to translate when Xiomara responded.

“Liar, I know that’s bullshit,” she said, grabbing his hand as we walked through the gates.

Men were jump-scaring people as they came in. Screams filled the air as we walked in. One of them tried to stalk us, but he was shitty at his job. Once I glared at him, he studied me before walking away.

“You’re no fun,” Xiomara said, pulling me towards them.

The Halloween grounds were massive. It was no wonder why it was so easy to make someone disappear here.

“If I wanted to get scared, this would not be the place I would come to,” I said watching the crowds.

“Oooh, big tough guy,” she taunted. “Where do you go to get scared? Sears, to buy an ill-fitted suit made out of polyester?”

Ezra grinned as I shuddered at the thought of an ill-fitting suit.

“I know polyester is scary,” she cackled.

I bit my lip to keep myself from smiling. Polyester was scary as hell.

“All right, Ezra, where shall we go first?” Xiomara asked.

He looked around pointing down the row of tents with vendors and food.

“Perfect choice, big man,” she said, leading us to a stand that sold appalling food.

They ordered corn dogs with a big Coke while I grimaced, not wanting anything.

“Oh, don’t be such a sourpuss. Get something,” Xiomara said, looking back at me.

“I’ll have…” Nothing sounded appealing and I was worried if I ate something I would feel gross afterwards.

“Can we have a tornado potato, poutine style, and a bottle of water?” Xiomara ordered for me.

She paid before one of us could and I glared at her while we waited for our food.

“Don’t give me that look,” she dismissed me. “You need to lighten up.”

He’ll never lighten up and I don’t think O has ever had any fried food like this. Ezra signed.

Xiomara looked at me expectedly. “Oh, now you want me to translate?’

“That was a lot of signing, and you don’t want me to voice what I think he said,” she chuckled.

“Humor me,” I said, stepping closer to her.

“That you have a silver spoon up your ass because you grew up in a posh family who only ate things that were organic and made by yo mama,” she said seriously.

Ezra immediately grinned.

“So close, witch. He said I have an amazing body, and I shouldn’t ruin it with fried food,” I smirked.

“Oh, you’re so full of shit,” she laughed, as our number was called.

We took our food to a nearby table that desperately needed to be cleaned. I looked for a bathroom to wash my hands when Xiomara took out a small bottle of sanitizer like she was our mother.

“Sanitize before you get sick.” She gave me some, then Ezra.
