“Okay. I’ll get dressed.”
“I’ll drive you to the resort since you left your car there.”
“Mer-Mini is probably lonely.”
He rolls his eyes, but his lips turn up in that barely there smile I’m seriously addicted to. Hope flickers alive once again. Stop it, May. This man doesn’t want me for more than one night. I need to let him go.
“Get dressed. I’ll phone Jace.”
I start to stand but there’s a knock on the door before I can move. I groan.
Brock’s eyes sharpen. “Who’s at the door at this time of the morning?”
“I’m guessing my parents.”
“Get dressed. I’ll get rid of them.”
“No!” I shout and jump to my feet. My sheet slips. I wrap it around me, toga style, and rush after Brock. He already has the door open by the time I reach him.
“Mr. Ross. Mrs. Ross,” he greets.
Mom smiles at him. “I told you to call me Lin.”
“And I’m Patrick,” Dad adds.
“Mom, Dad. We’re in a hurry. I’ll talk to you later.”
Mom glances my way and her smile deepens when she notices I’m wearing a sheet. “Told you.”
Dad grunts. “I didn’t disagree with you.”
“You made us come over here and check on her.”
“She’s my baby girl. Of course, I wanted to check on her.” His gaze lands on Brock. “And make sure no one was taking advantage of her.”
Brock lifts his hands. “I’m not taking advantage of May.”
“Last night was completely consensual,” I add and Brock’s cheeks darken.
Great. Now, he’s being cute and embarrassed. This man needs to stop drawing me in. I’m already hooked.
“What’s the hurry?” Mom asks.
“Don’t be nosey,” I say but Brock answers.
“Need to get back to my kid.”
“You should have breakfast first.”
“Mom. We don’t have time for breakfast. He needs to get back to Jace.”
She flicks a hand in dismissal. “Jace is sixteen. He’s fine on his own.”
I don’t disagree, but it’s not my place to have an opinion. He’s not my son. I ignore how my stomach rolls at the reminder that I will never have children of my own.
“Brock is Jace’s dad. He gets to decide how to raise him.”
“But—”
