“What’s today’s date?”

I snort. “Are you serious?”

“Answer,” he grumbles.

I tell him.

“Where are we?”

I gesture to the sand. “The beach.”

“Specifically.”

“Smuggler’s Hideaway.”

I reach up to touch the bump, but he catches my wrist. “Don’t.”

“Why not?”

“Because I’m looking at your pupils.”

He leans closer and I forget all about my injury. All I can see is Brock. All I can smell is Brock. He smells of the ocean – my favorite smell in the world.

“Your pupils are the same size.” He leans closer. “You’re done teaching for today.”

“Absolutely not.”

“You have a head injury.”

“It’s barely a bump.”

“Not your decision.”

“Excuse me? Whose decision is it?”

“You’re not getting in the water.”

I glare at him. “I will do whatever I want.” I grab his t-shirt and pull him even closer. “Including this.”

I meld my mouth to his. He freezes for a moment and I glide my tongue along his bottom lip. He growls before taking over. He palms my neck and shoves his tongue between my lips.

I don’t resist. Why would I? I finally have Brock right where I want him. Touching me. Tasting me.

He tears his lips from mine. “That shouldn’t have happened,” he mutters before whirling around and marching away.

I stare after him. Did he not feel the spark between us? Does he not feel the air sizzle whenever the two of us are near each other?

Smoking smugglers surfing in a storm. I thought…

Never mind what I thought. It doesn’t matter. Brock doesn’t want me the way I want him.

Rule #9: Never let distractions onto the field.

“You sure you don’t want to come to practice today?” I ask Jace as we stand in the reception area of the resort.
