“We’re okay, Paul. I hate that you lied to me, but I understand why you did.”

“I never wanted—”

“But if you do it again,” I pushed against his chest and looked up at him, “I will hide your body with John’s help and raise Chase to believe you worked as an escort in Vegas. I’ll even have Grim back up my story.” I gave an evil laugh, not at all joking.

He drew me closer. “You know, I don’t doubt a word of that.”

“Glad we have an understanding, sweetheart.”

He spun me around and back inside his room and slammed the door behind us. I wiggled free, removed my sweater, and walked backward toward his bed. He smirked as he leaned against the door, watching me.

“I’ve been thinking.” I slowly undid my belt, popped the button on my jeans, then dragged the zipper down, letting him see my lace panties. His gaze immediately spotted them, and his neck contracted as he swallowed. “Chase is already two years old.”

“He is.” His voice was husky.

I hooked my thumbs inside the top of my jeans and inched them over my hips then let them fall around my ankles. As I kicked them aside, I turned my back to him, moving toward his balcony doors, undoing my bra as I went. I held it out to the side and let it dangle in the air, then dropped it to the floor. “He could use a sibling, don’t you think?” Before I even got the last word out, Paul’s hands slid around my midsection and pulled me flush to his bare body. When did he undress?

“If anything, we owe it to him to at least try.” He grinned against my ear, then dove into my neck, kissing me like it was our first time together. His hands were everywhere until I was breathless. He picked me up and pressed me against the wall while he devoured my breasts. My nipples had hardened, and it felt exquisitely painful as he tugged and pulled on them with his teeth. Then he lowered me a little, and I felt how ready he was. He pressed himself at my opening then quickly pulled away and threw me over his shoulder. I squeaked, as it happened so fast, and he gave my butt a slap and tossed me on his bed.

“Hurry,” I urged, so ready to feel him.

“I like you like this,” he panted, and his chest rose as he drew in a large breath. He looked glorious as he stood there over me, backlit by the light from the sliding glass doors. Paul was gorgeous, handsome, and intense, but there was a level of kindness about him that I adored. The fact that he was letting me see and experience it made me feel incredibly special.

“I like you like that, too.” I darted my tongue out to touch my upper lip and looked at his face that was partly in shadow then ran my eyes down his torso to the part I wanted so badly. This man was everything I wanted. We’d overcome a lot together, and we made it out the other side. I loved that for us, but right then I needed more—so much more. I suddenly felt such clarity, like a veil had been lifted and happiness for the fact that he had let me in flowed through me like warm honey.

His fingers rolled into fists. “No more secrets between us, Nicole. I can’t risk losing you, and neither can Chase.”

I smiled; he was thinking like a father. “Paul,” I shot him a deep smoldering look with as much desire in it as I could muster, “need I remind you that I just said I want to have a child with you? I stripped for you, and now I’m naked on your bed, waiting for you to take me, and you’re concerned about losing me? What’s a girl gotta do for her boyfriend to see she’s all in for this life?”

His face broke out in a boyish grin, one that made my heart swell because it looked just like Chase…until it didn’t. His eyes went dark, hungry, and oh!

He grabbed my ankles and hauled me down to him, then hooked them around his hips and slid in without warning. Thankfully, I was more than ready, and as the delicious sensation took over, he swallowed my moan with an earth-shattering kiss. All the while, his hips moved to a rhythm that sent me to a place I didn’t know existed. If this is heaven—sign me up!

When he let me come up for air minutes later, he moved his lips down my jaw, dropping kisses as he went. With his lips to my ear, he breathed, “I love you, Nicole.” I didn’t get the chance to answer because he lifted my leg, hooked it over his shoulder to change the angle, and began to thrust harder—not too hard, just enough to build the sensation and toss me off into a happy bliss that I never wanted to end.

I called out something, and Paul did, too, as he continued to pump inside me. We both chased after the erotic feeling, desperately seeking release. Then I went weightless and felt heavy at the same time as I came back to my senses.

Paul pulled the cool sheet over us a moment later, then hooked an arm and drew me against his warm front. I wiggled into his hold, feeling content and satisfied. Sex with Paul. It was great and something I wanted a lot more of. We lay like that for some time in the fading light, both letting sleep creep over us. As I finally gave in to it and felt my eyelids grow heavy, I felt his chest vibrate as he spoke.

“I thought I was happy before,” he whispered. “I thought I knew what love was.” I listened and stilled when I realized he referred to Talya. “But everything then was based on secrets, lies, and glass foundations.” He ran a finger lightly down my arm as he thought, “What I have with you, Nicole, is so much deeper, and I’m never, ever letting this kind of love go.”

I turned in his arms and caught his lips with mine, tenderly sealing his promise with my own. We fell asleep wrapped in each other’s arms with hope resting around us.

The next morning, I woke to an empty bed, so I quickly got ready and headed downstairs to say goodbye to the first round of people leaving the house.

Paul was in the living room with Chase in his arms as he spun a toy helicopter around his head. He giggled and kicked his feet, and I could see he thought his dad was the funniest person on Earth. Warmth spread through me as I watched my new little family and wondered how I had gotten to this point in my life—not that I was about to question it. Paul caught my gaze and leaned and put Chase down and pointed at me, and his big brown eyes lit up.

“Mama!” He hung on to Paul’s pantleg as he squealed and clapped with drool dripping down his chin.

I waved. “Hi, buddy.”

“Come!” he called, and I made my way over. When I was close enough, Paul wrapped an arm around me and kissed my neck.

“Morning.”

“Morning to you, too.”

Chase dove into my arms when I leaned down to him. I was ready to dodge his drool. “Hey, Chase.”
