"Seems like every living creature within a five-mile radius."
"No fucking joke."
Someone jogged up to our car. Jude, I realized, when he approached my window.
King didn't roll it down.
Jude lifted his hands in surrender.
I gave in, rolling my window down myself.
"I didn't do this!" he yelled, over the sound of loud, thumping music. "Parkin made a post on the internet. I've been trying to end this for the past twenty minutes. We're going to have to call the cops."
"Report it to the HOA so they don't fucking kill us," King called back.
"Hollis is on the phone with them right now."
Someone else jogged over.
Hollis.
He had his phone to his ear, and looked slightly overwhelmed. The glasses he wore sometimes had slid down his nose a bit, and his hair was messier than usual.
"They're sending the neighborhood's security over. We have to shut off the music so everyone can hear them," Hollis explained.
"Not it," Jude called out.
Hollis scoffed at him. The man didn't look like he was ready to face down whatever bastard was playing DJ at the moment.
King sighed. Loudly. "I've got it. Stay in the car, Gorgeous."
"No way. I sat in the box during the game." I was already unbuckling my seatbelt.
"Jude planned this shitshow. He can turn the music off," Hollis stated.
Jude pinned him with a look.
Shouting broke out, and we all turned around, looking behind us.
A few of the drunk guys had piled together.
A punch flew.
Then another.
The group erupted with activity, and the shouting grew louder as the fight started to intensify.
"I'll deal with that," Jude yelled. "Good luck."
He took off toward the fight at a jog.
Hollis shook his head and ran after him, his phone still pinned to his ear.
I looked at King.
His lips twitched.
Mine did, too.
