“That’s why you didn’t want to move it yet.”
“Yeah, that gets moved at the last minute.” After giving Poirot a chew toy, she settled in and turned on her laptop.
Facebook opened right away. A little red circle floated above the notification button with a white eighteen. Maybe someone saw her post and knew who the journal belonged to.
She clicked the button, but every single notification was someone “liking” her post about the journal—no comments, no private messages. At least people were seeing the post. Someone would know who it belonged to.
Chapter Fourteen
Josh left the patient room where he’d seen a little boy with an ear infection. Thankfully, a simple round of antibiotics should clear it up before his swim lessons started next week.
Josh’s phone dinged.
After stopping at the nurses’ station, he went to his office and opened the text from Chloe. She had sent him a photo of the front of the final cover for their wedding program, and it was beautiful. It was getting more real by the minute.
He texted back:
Looks great. Twelve days!
Sliding his phone into his pocket, he sat at his desk to work on charting. He hadn’t been at it for long when the receptionist buzzed him on the intercom.
“Your lunch arrived.”
“Lunch? I’m coming.”
He walked to the front of the office and called to the delivery driver before he walked through the door. “I didn’t order.”
The driver shrugged and looked at his phone. “Dr. Josh Schneider?”
“That’s me.”
“Then that food is for you. I think there’s a message on the receipt.”
“Okay. Thanks.”
“Yep.” The driver waved over his shoulder and left the office.
Josh took the bag off the counter. “That’s weird.”
Lucy, his gray-haired receptionist, said, “Maybe that almost-wife of yours is looking out for you.”
“True. This would be her style.”
“Unless her mom made something for you.” Lucy chuckled.
Josh almost felt bad that Chloe’s reputation for not being much of a cook followed wherever she went, but she did it to herself.
Lifting the receipt, he looked for a message.
“Hope you are well. After your comment the other day, I thought you’d appreciate some lunch. Have a good day. Breana.”
He almost dropped the bag. What on earth?
Lucy asked, “Not from Chloe?”
“No. It’s from the wedding coordinator for the venue destroyed in the tornado.”
“Weird.”
