Jayden snorted. “Seriously, are you shocked at that?”

“Well...” Beth stuttered.

“I’m already getting ready for the things my friends are going to say about you. A few of them already are.”

She cringed. “Do I want to ask?”

“They all think you’re hot.”

Roman laughed at the shocked look on her face.

“Oh, Lord. I ... I don’t know what to say, but I’m sorry.”

Jayden chuckled. “It’s not your fault. You can’t help that you’re beautiful.”

She grinned and tapped the tip of his nose with a finger. “Now I know why I love you.”

Jayden snorted. “So, what’s the plan?”

“You two are going to stay at my place until we get with the D.A. and arrest him. We’re not sure what he’s liable to do when he finds all his stuff gone.”

“How long?”

“Maybe a few nights. We’ll see. I’ve got a room that you and your mom can share.”

Jayden snorted and rolled his eyes. “You guys, I’m not a baby. I know you two want to be together. It doesn’t bother me at all. In fact, it makes me happy to see my mom happy. Just don’t be making out in front of me. Okay?”

Beth sputtered and then laughed. “Jayden!”

“I’m going to be a teenager in less than a month.”

“You had to remind me about that?”

Jayden grinned. “Hey, Mom, you can’t stop time.”

She chuckled. “I’ll get my things packed. You have to shower, young man.” She stood and waved her hand in front of her face. “Whew! You reek.”

Jayden threw back his head and laughed. “It’s because I’m becoming a man, Mom. It’s called testosterone.”

“Oh, Lord.” She rolled her eyes. “Get going.”

Jayden grabbed some clothes and rushed into the bathroom while she and Roman went to her room.

She pulled down a small suitcase, set it on the bed, and started putting clothes in it. Roman sat on the bed and watched. She squeaked when he grabbed her and pulled her between his legs and then gripped her hips.

“I don’t want you to worry,” he said.

She sighed, set her hands on his broad shoulders, and looked down at her feet. “It’s hard not to.”

“I know, baby.” He cupped her face and kissed her. Since he was so large and she was so small, even sitting, Beth didn’t have to bend far, which shocked her at that moment for some reason.

“Hey, Mom, I’m hungry,” Jayden yelled from his room.

The adults grinned.

“We’ll grab something on the way home,” he said.

She finished packing, grabbed her purse, and locked up the house.
