“Would you like to go with me to the range and practice?”
“Yeah, I think I need to get more comfortable with them.”
“You can never practice enough.” He handed them all back to her to put in the safe. “Do you have ammo for the 380 or twenty-two?”
“I’m not sure.” She walked back into the closet. “Rick has a stack of them here. I see a few boxes of the ones you want.”
“I’ll check them out when we get to the range. I’ll make sure I bring some too.”
She nodded and closed the safe and stood. She stopped short when she turned and about ran into Roman’s chest.
He grinned down at her before he held out his hand. “See me out. I know we both have to work in the morning.”
“Yes,” she murmured and slid her hand into his.
They walked to the front door before he turned her and pulled her into his arms.
“I hope we can see each other this week.”
She bit her lip. “I’d like to. We’ll have to see what’s going on before we can make any plans.”
He tilted her head up, bent, and took her lips. He pulled her in tighter against him as he deepened the kiss.
They broke apart abruptly and stared at each other.
“I need to get out of here. Call me tomorrow when you get a chance. All right?”
“Yes, I’ll do that.”
He kissed her one more time before he walked out the door.
“Bye, baby. Lock the door.”
“I will. Thank you for dinner.”
“You’re welcome.”
“Drive safe.”
He raised his hand and then walked to his car.
On the way back to his lonely condo, he realized it got harder and harder to leave her each time.
They hadn’t been together for long, and he already felt like he was in deep. He couldn’t imagine how he’d feel in another week or month. But he didn’t care. Nothing was going to take her away from him if he could help it.
He wiped a hand down his face when he realized he was already in love with her. He just hoped she felt at least a fraction of how he felt.
He’d do his fucking best to make a future happen with her. There was no other option. He grinned. She wasn’t going to know what hit her.
Chapter Fifteen
The week flew by. Both Roman and Beth were disappointed that they hadn’t been able to see each other until Sunday, but they talked on the phone every night before they went to bed.
Roman had to contend with the fact that he wouldn’t be able to see her every day as he wanted, but it helped him to know he was going to move forward with his plans to cement both Beth and Jayden into his life in every way he could.
That Sunday, Roman drove with Beth in the front, and Jayden in the back, headed to his parents’ place.
“Hey, bud, I’ve got a lot of nephews, a few around your age, I think you’ll enjoy and get along with. You probably don’t go to the same school, but you’ll have things in common.”
