Flashbacks of our time together all those years ago flicker in my mind and I can feel my cock growing harder beneath my trousers, but I daren’t adjust myself, my own hand merely isn’t enough.

Just as Iris opens her battered mouth to speak, I cut her off. “How sweet, but I highly doubt my boy here will even have the strength to lift a fucking spoon by the time I’m done with him.” I say with harsh malice, causing Iris to wriggle around in the agent's hold. She pulls against his arms, but he quickly overpowers her with a firm hand around her throat. She begins to cough and sputter, pearls of blood seeping between her lips.

“Enough!” Silas grunts through gritted teeth. “Get your... fucking hands off of her.” His breathing is staggered and rough, like he’s on the verge of passing out again.

I nod to the agent, who loosens his hold slightly at my command. With the flow of oxygen again, Iris heaves in a breath, her shoulders rising up and down as she tries to regulate her breathing.

“Well,” I clap my hands together, forcing them to look at me. “It’s about time I put my dog back in his cage, don’t you think? I think you’ve been let off the lead for far too long.”

My eyes flick to Silas, a wicked grin pulling at my thin lips. His gaze never strays from mine, even with his pet in the room. He’s laying all his hatred on me, and it’s enough to send my blood pressure skyrocketing.

Immediately, the agents begin to pull Iris out of the manor first. She fights of course, but she’s no match for my men. Once she’s outside, Silas is dragged towards me. The gunshot wound on his stomach beginning to leave a trail behind him. Tiny droplets pattering against the floor like a leaky tap.

I want to think that he’ll behave, but my boy seems to have forgotten my house rules. He comes to halt at the side of me, teeth grinding quietly in his mouth.

I turn to look over my shoulder at him. “Something to say, boy?”

He scowls, eyelids hooded with eyes blacker than the abyss.

“Just remember, old... man.” A sharp cough slips past his lips before he speaks again. “If you cage a dog for long enough, that dog can become... real fucking nasty, and I ain’t talking about me.” His gaze flicks from mine towards the door where Iris left, then it drops back down to me. Our faces are inches from one another, we’re so close that I can feel his breath on my skin.

“I’ll fucking bite you regardless of the cage.” He spits out before snapping his teeth in my face. I jolt backwards in fear that I’ll lose the end of my nose. Silas laughs like a crazed man, and it has my blood boiling.

I will not be made a fool of. Not by anyone, and especially not by him. My fist clenches tightly by my side, anger racing through my bloodstream like a bullet, and I send it plunging into his stomach. Instantly he doubles over in Bennet’s arms, coughing and spluttering up blood. The slimy red liquid pulls in long strings out of his mouth before landing inches away from my polished shoes.

“Get him out of my sight.” I spit the command at Bennet who quickly proceeds to pull Silas out of the manor towards the awaiting van outside. Then I leave, feeling more eager than ever to begin my treatment plan.

The one where Silas will bend to my every will, because that’s all he will ever know from now on. There will be no Iris, no love, no future. Only me.

Pain rings in my head like church bells, and I’m pretty sure that dusty old fucker chipped my tooth. The last thing I remember is being thrown into the back of a van before my skull cracked against the metal flooring, and now it’s absolutely throbbing. I can practically hear the blood in my veins swimming around my body.

The van is cold and dark, with a distinct, musty smell. I so badly want to give into the darkness that’s threatening to swallow me whole, but I need Silas, where is–

“Fucking mutt!” The agent who pinned Silas down spits out as he yanks open the van door, allowing the frigid cold inside before throwing Silas down at the side of me. His solid weight shakes the van, and I waste no time scrambling to his side. Even with the amount of pain that’s radiating throughout my body, I need to make sure that he’s still alive.

I won’t know what, or who I’ll become if he isn’t on this earth anymore.

The heavy door slams shut, plunging us both into darkness, but I don’t care, I don’t need to see, I just need to feel him. To feel the beating of his heart against my palm. My fingers begin to tremble as I graze the clammy skin of his arm.

He’s growing cold. Why is he cold?

“Silas?” I whisper whilst scrambling in the dark to try and grasp his shoulder. Trailing my hand further up, I instantly recognise the firm muscle. “Please, Silas... say something.” I shake him slightly, but he doesn’t move. Tears immediately flood my eyes, and I allow them to fall freely.

Gripping his shoulder tightly, I give him another shake then I press my fingers to his neck. Like the flutter of wings, a soft pulse thrums against my fingers. It’s barely there, but I can feel it, his fractured soul beating softly, its sharp claws grasping on for dear life. Using my other hand, I grab the length of my hair and pull it over one shoulder before leaning over him. Soft bursts of his breath whisper across my freezing skin and without a second thought, I press my lips to his.

The tears that stain my face quickly run down the side of my nose towards my lips before seeping between us both. I can taste the salt and pain that’s embedded within them, but I don’t pull away, not until he kisses me back.

He always kisses me back. He has to. I won’t accept any other outcome.

Trembling shakes take over my hand as I cup his jaw, feeling that two-day stubble and scarred flesh, rough against my palm. With each second that passes I can feel my heart shattering, the strings snapping, and just as I’m about to pull away, Silas kisses me back.

He kisses me back.

That rough groan that I love so much vibrates through his chest and hearing that sound opens the flood gates. I cry into his mouth, and he willingly swallows my pain, then softly breaks the kiss before lifting his hand to wipe away the tears.

“Even in the dark, little demon. I’ll always find you.” His voice is dry and hoarse, but that doesn’t stop him from telling me what I need to hear.

“Silas,” I whimper, cupping his hand with my own. “I don’t wanna die, not when we’ve only just begun to live.”
