Kelly’s lips rolled over her teeth, as though she were deep in thought. And then her eyes widened. “Your name is Lynn. Wait. No. It’s Leah.”
Leah gasped. “That’s right. How did you know?”
Kelly shrugged. “You know how it is with small town gossip. Everyone was wondering when you’d make it into town. Well, it’s nice to meet you.” And then she looked at Shaun. “You, I don’t know.”
“Hi. I’m Shaun. I’m staying at the B&B.”
“Well, hello, Shaun. Welcome to Kringle Falls. What can I start you with?”
“I could definitely go for some coffee with cream.”
Kelly nodded. Then she turned to Leah. “And what can I get you?”
“The same but I’d like some sweetener.”
“You got it. I’ll be back for your order.”
Leah glanced across the table at Shaun. “That has never happened to me before.”
“What? Having people want to meet you?”
She nodded.
He leaned back in the booth. “It’s kind of nice, don’t you think?”
She shrugged. “I guess.”
“Imagine coming here all of the time. I bet she’d get to know your favorite meal and how you like your coffee. She might even become a good friend of yours.”
Leah arched a brow. “Are you trying to sell me on Kringle Falls?”
He shook his head. “No. Maybe. I don’t know. I guess you just look so at home here and back at the inn.”
She thought about telling him about her searching for her family, but she caught herself before the words came tumbling out. She didn’t want Shaun to think less of her or for him to think she wanted him to feel sorry for her. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Her mother had her problems, but one thing she taught Leah was that the only person she could count on in life was herself. It had helped her through some tough times. It would help her get through this big decision.
“Are you okay?” Shaun’s concerned voice drew her attention.
“Uh, yes.”
He continued to give her a concerned look. “Headache?”
She shrugged. “A little.”
“I’ll ask the server if they have some pain killers.”
Leah shook her head. “Don’t. I’ll be fine after some caffeine and some food.”
He arched a brow. “Are you sure?”
She nodded as she opened her menu. It wasn’t exactly the truth. She should be back at the inn searching for answers. But there was nothing she could do about it now.
Lunch had been good.
The company had been better.
Shaun thought of the work he should be doing on his computer back at the inn, but he was in no rush. He was enjoying his visit to Kringle Falls. He just hoped Leah was enjoying her day just as much as he was.
