“This is a lot, Damian.”
“I promise I won't deliberately invade your privacy, Sweet.”
My eyes narrow.
“That's not exactly reassuring.”
“I know. I’m sorry.”
His shoulders drop. And suddenly he doesn't look like an arrogant billionaire Devil. He looks like a man who knows he fucked up.
“You have no idea how sorry I am.”
The words are quiet.
Simple.
No excuses attached.
“What are you sorry for?”
“All of it. For not doing this the right way. I am so fucking sorry I bit you without your permission.”
My chest tightens.
“I didn't plan it. I didn't even know you were my promised until it happened. But that doesn't change the fact that I did something to you that you didn't understand or agree to.”
I stare at our hands. His is still resting palm-up on the table.
Waiting.
“I was really angry.”
“You had every right to be.”
“I still might be.”
“You have every right to that, too.”
Dammit.
“Could you stop being so reasonable? It's making this harder.”
One corner of his mouth lifts.
“Sorry.”
“No, you're not.”
“Not about that.”
A laugh slips out. His smile disappears almost immediately.
“There's something else you need to know.”
My stomach tightens.
“What?”
