Every time he called me that, my heart skipped a beat. I knew, technically, we were married, but we were really supposed to be dating and getting to know each other. Any time Christian claimed me as his wife, it felt like he meant it.

“Nice to meet you.” I extended my hand, and she shook it, greeting me as well.

“Is Cara in her office? She told me now would be a good time of day to stop by.”

Sage checked something on her desk and nodded. “That would be correct. She doesn’t have another meeting for an hour. You can go ahead and go back.”

“Thanks, Sage,” Christian told her before walking away.

As we made our way through the building, I noticed a few of his club brothers from Vegas. They were talking to a group of men watching us with smirks. Christian snorted when he saw that, but kept moving. We rounded a corner and walked to a door at the end of the hall. Christian tapped on it before slowly opening the door. Cara was on the phone, clearly in a heated argument. When she spotted us in the doorway, she waved us in. We both took a seat in front of her desk as Cara appeared to be beyond annoyed.

“Ms. Lohan, I’ve already told you, we will no longer provide our security services to you.” Cara’s face morphed into anger at the response from the caller. “Sue me?! What the hell could you sue me for?” This time Cara snickered at the response. “You’re going to sue me for discrimination. Okay. But when I beat your little lawsuit, I’m going to countersue for defamation. I am no longer servicing you because you sexually propositioned my guard, then tried to lie to get him fired when he denied you. I have the proof. Those shades he wore have a camera installed in them. So, this isn’t a matter of taking his word over yours. I know exactly what you did. It’s a violation of the contract you signed, which gives me grounds to terminate it immediately. Now, have a good fuckin’ day!” she sneered, hanging up the phone.

My eyes widened as Christian watched his sister, amused. “You make the guards wear cameras?”

“Hell yeah. Sometimes they work dangerous gigs that might result in them using their firearms. I want every detail recorded so nothing ever comes back on them. But enough of that. What brings you two by?”

Christian cleared his throat, sitting forward. “Brittney needs your help to find someone.”

Cara turned to me. “Who?”

I twisted my fingers together. Suddenly I felt nervous from her intense stare. Christian gripped my hand, giving it an encouraging squeeze. “I need help finding my biological father.”

“Okay,” Cara said as she opened her laptop. “What’s his name?”

My shoulders dropped. “I don’t know.”

Cara’s brows dipped. “You don’t know?” she drawled.

“It’s not like that, Cara. Tell her everything, Brit.”

I nodded and proceeded to tell her everything that had happened that day. By the time I was finished, Cara sat there with a smile. “This will be easy. Give me a day, and I’ll get back to you.”

I looked from her to Christian, perplexed. “How would this be easy to get his name?”

“You said you heard your mother say she was freshly divorced and pregnant with you when she got with Myron, which means…” She looked at me like she was waiting for me to catch the hint.

Then it clicked!

“Which means she was married to my father, and marriage certificates are public records!” I shouted, filled with excitement.

I couldn’t believe all this time it was that damn easy. I had spent hours trying to figure out a way to get my mother to slip up and say his name when I didn’t need her at all.

“Exactly. So, once I get his name, I’ll get all the info on him that I can, and I’ll get back to you.”

I felt so relieved. “Thank you, Cara.”

“It’s no problem. But, uh, what are you doing tonight?”

I glanced between her and Christian with my brows furrowed. “Umm, nothing at all.”

“Cool. Have you ever been to TJ’s?”

I smirked and nodded my head. “Yeah. That’s Kira’s and my favorite spot.”

She clasped her hands, grinning. “Great. Why don’t you two join me and the Ol’ Ladies there tonight? We’re meeting at seven for a girls’ night out.”

“I would love to, and I’m sure Kira would be down too.”
