“Angela,” I muttered, signaling the bartender for another drink.

“That was a trip,” said Anton, also signaling for another drink. “I told you she was bad news the second I met her.”

He had. He didn’t trust her, claimed she was only after one thing. Money. I was too blinded by all the good qualities she put on display from the get-go, hooking me in. Come to find out, she didn’t really possess a single one. I had been conned, and I hated it.

At least with Sarah, we were upfront about the money. This was a job, after all.

“Just be thankful you only lost your pride and a little bit of time,” said Anton, sliding our new drinks toward us.

“Now, she’s off to the next one to drain dry,” I said.

“That old guy, right?” He chuckled.

“Sucker,” I muttered. “Poor guy thinks he’s in love. He gave her a ring just for her to eventually take half of everything. I bet she talked the schmuck out of a prenup.”

“She’s history now.”

I nodded. “And so are my worries at the company. My father has bought into Sarah and my relationship, hook, line, and sinker.”

“Probably because you two sell it so well,” said Anton, nudging my shoulder.

“It’s easy to. Sometimes, I find myself wanting it to be real. I haven’t wanted something like that in a long time.”

“And her?”

“I don’t know.” I shrugged. “Sometimes, I think she feels something too, but maybe she’s just a really good actress.”

“Why don’t you put it to the test?” suggested Anton.

“How?”

“Take her on a real date. Outside of the office. See how you feel then.”

It was something I hadn’t really thought about. Our “relationship” has been confined to the office. Our little bubble. Maybe, if I got us out of there, I could see how I really felt. Is it real or is it just exciting because of the taboo aspect of it all? A date wasn’t a bad idea. I just didn’t know if she would go for it.

“This seat taken?” purred a woman’s voice very close to my ear.

I looked up and saw an auburn-haired beauty with big green eyes and a glossy pout smiling at me. She was the type of woman I would normally go for. Big tits, tiny waist, long hair that I could wrap my hand around.

“It’s all yours,” I said, gesturing to it.

As she sat down, I placed a hundred dollar bill on the counter.

“I’m actually heading home. But my friend Anton here is a great listener.” I winked at him and stood from my seat, leaving the woman with her mouth open.

I smiled to myself as I walked out of the bar, knowing what I needed to do next, which was somehow convince Sarah to go on a real date with me.

Chapter 23 Sarah

I sipped my morning coffee on the couch, the steam rising to greet my face as I tried to focus on the book I was reading. It was a contemporary romance with the usual enemies to lovers trope that I enjoyed so much. I turned the page just as the door to Jessica’s room opened and she wheeled herself into the living room.

“Morning,” I said with a sleepy smile.

I hadn’t gotten much sleep, spending the night tossing and turning thinking about my night with Brad. I couldn’t understand how this man could have such a hold on me. He was impossible to resist, even when he pissed me off. It was as if we both enjoyed the sex more when it followed a bickering match, as it often did.

“Morning,” said Jessica, wheeling herself to the kitchen where I had a pot of coffee waiting for her. “Thanks for the coffee.”

“Do you need help?” I asked from where I was snuggled up on the couch with my favorite fuzzy blanket.
