“The birthday boy is here!” Marissa shouted, climbing to her feet to greet Quincy.

He walked in wearing coordinating outfits with a beautiful dark-skinned woman. Everybody else was on their feet, yelling happy birthday and clapping. Quincy was taking it all in after hugging his mother. Khaleesi stood and summoned the servers, who appeared with champagne flutes and bottles of water for the two girls and the pregnant woman in attendance.

“This is nice,” Quincy complimented, admiring the setup. “Thank you all for the birthday wishes. I thought this was the best time–”

“For him to introduce you to his girlfriend, Bebe.” Yarissa hopped out of her seat to do the honors. “Bebe is a pediatric nurse; she’s good with kids and has great fashion taste. We met the last time I went to visit Quincy in Atlanta. She met us at Phipps, and we ran up his card,” she chirped, continuing over to Quincy and Bebe.

Yarissa and Bebe flitted their fingers together and leaned back at the same time like it was their secret handshake.

“Hi, it’s nice to meet you all,” Bebe waved.

“Q, you see how I was the first one to meet Quincy’s girlfriend?” Yarissa inquired, dramatically pointing at herself. “Very mindful. Very demure. He’s about to earn that Big Brudder label back. He makes sure I’m the first person to know about big changes in his life. He doesn’t claim I can’t keep a secret. He gives ya girl his trust. Fallon, did I ever spill the beans about Bebe?”

“Nope,” Fallon refuted.

“Y’all gotta keep Yarissa off TikTok,” Amill laughed.

Quincy stood at the head of the table, pointing at everyone, stating their names, and reminding Bebe of their relation. He stopped at Amill and squinted.

“Amill, who is that with you?”

“This is Travis,” Amill clarified.

“‘Sup. I’m from Atlanta. Been rooting for you since you joined the team!” He responded, eyes lit like a fucking groupie.

I took a champagne flute and chugged it.

“Wassup with that?” Travis turned in his seat to address Amill.

“What do you mean?” Amill scowled, then finished off her champagne.

“Ever since that nigga popped up, I been just Travis. That angel face can only take you so far. I been through your phone, so I knew you was fucking some nigga outta Miami. That’s him, huh? But you real audacious to be sitting next to him while I’m on the other side. I guess it don’t matter. I got what I needed out of the deal. I just gotta let a hoe be a hoe,” Travis ranted, clicking around on his phone.

I was up on my feet, and Amill and Yaseer were too. “Go ‘head. Touch me, I’m on stream to ensure I walk outta here untouched,” Travis taunted, arrogantly lifting his champagne flute to his lips.

It was time for me to make good on my promise.

PAAAAH!

The champagne flute shattered as I reached over Amill and smashed the glass into his face. Blood spilled from the cuts on his forehead. He dropped his phone and screamed, gently patting his face in a panic.

I was on his ass, pulling him back onto the table. Amill stumbled a few steps back, giving me plenty of space.

THWAK!

THWAK!

THWAK!

I pounded his face. Left. Right. Left. Ignoring the screams over my head.

A pair of hands tried to pull me off Travis, but I elbowed them off me. Blood spurted everywhere, ruining the crisp white linen and dinnerware.

Travis tumbled to the ground, but his phone clung to the table. I snatched his phone, pulled the cord connecting it to his portable charger, and launched it into the water. Within seconds, I had the long cord wrapped around his neck.

“Stepp! Stop!” Vincent reprimanded.

Still not deterred, I pulled tighter. Travis gurgled weakly.
