“I just wanna cuddle,” he explained, leaning down to peck my neck.
“Well, I don’t want to cuddle. I want to talk. What are we doing?” I sighed when he straightened up.
“I don’t know, Amill. I missed you, though.”
“I told you the last time I was in Miami that if you don’t want to commit, I was done for real. I’m still in the public eye, and you’re still… doing whatever you do, so we’re at a stalemate. Just take me back home. I don’t know why I even got in the truck with you!” I scoffed.
“Because you love me,” he expressed, then took another pull from his blunt.
“I do, but you’re frustrating.”
“You’re frustrating too. Parading that nigga around like I won’t chop him up and feed him to Killa,” he ranted.
“Well, you won’t claim me,” I shrugged. “I look too good to be playing with you in the dark. It’s been over a year now.”
“I told you, I needed time to figure my life out. You act like you can’t do that for me. I have valid reasons for not jumping into a relationship with you. Let’s keep it a buck. How can I commit to a relationship with a public figure while actively working for one of the most powerful criminal organizations in Miami? Amill, if something were to happen to you,” his voice trailed off, and darkness flashed in his eyes.
“Plus, being next to you puts me in the public eye. Then people are going to want to know who I am? How I get money? That puts unnecessary targets on both our backs. You’re fucking spoiled and impatient. Look how Jameera and Q’s business has been all over the internet all year, and neither one of them be online for real.”
“You had over a year, and you haven’t made a move yet,” I argued. Pushing Stepp back, I slipped off the counter. “You used to run with Vincent and Xain. I know you don’t need the money. So what is it?”
“An addiction,” he admitted.
MCHT!
I sucked my teeth so hard I knew Stepp felt my attitude. Brushing past him, I headed for the door. Killa was hot on my heels, waiting for his walk.
“Where you going?”
“To request an Uber.”
“No, the fuck you not. Be mad, I don’t give a fuck, but I’ll take you home.”
“I would appreciate it,” I quipped.
I stood near the door while he grabbed his keys and went to retrieve his shirt. It pained me the way Killa stared up at me, but his dad and I just couldn’t seem to get on the same page. Stepp exited the bedroom, pulling on his shirt. I opened the door and let Killa out. He ran to the oak tree in the middle of the yard to pee, then sprinted back to me. We climbed into the backseat, and he laid his head on my lap during the silent ride.
Stepp headed to the side of my building to park in the garage, but I didn’t even want him doing that.
“Just drop me off in the front,” I requested.
“Alright.”
The truck eased to a stop at the curb, and I leaned down to kiss the top of Killa’s head. He whined once Stepp opened the door for me. Killa was well trained and wouldn’t hop out until Stepp gave him permission, but he’d definitely whine.
“Amill,” Stepp started after he closed the door in Killa’s face.
“I don’t want to hear it. Go play in somebody else’s face. You made me forget who I was for the past year, but I remember now. I’m worth everything I demand and then some.”
I flung my hand in front of his face and held it up as I walked away.
CHAPTER NINE
Khaleesi
A Few Weeks Later
Watching my visions come to life would never get old. The Moon & Muse photoshoot was going according to plan. The unpredictable Florida weather was cooperating. A light breeze blew through without rain.
