CHAPTER ONE

Khaleesi Williams

Climbing into the truck, my mind was in a million different places about what I had going on with Xain. Everything was blissful in Morocco, but I wasn’t sure how far I wanted things to go, or whether I wanted to keep doing whatever we were doing now that we were back home. After my relationship with Montell, I promised never to shit where I eat again. Before I could get too deep in my thoughts, Jameera’s meltdown diverted my attention from that.

I swear I was suffering from whiplash because we went from learning about James’ car accident to all hell breaking loose with the cops.

“Quinten Bentley Jr.?” A deep, monotonous voice had me looking through the back window. Cops surrounded us. Hands positioned on guns, menacing glares trained on the five of us like we committed murder and were fleeing the country. Thoughts of D3’s very public hospitalization came flooding back, and I knew what this was.

“What’s going on?” Duke inquired, stepping out of the truck.

“Xain Smith?” Another voice called from our side of the truck.

“Alright, everybody put your hands up!” An officer yelled from Q and Jameera’s side of the truck.

“What is this about?” I questioned, my hands up in the air as I slipped back out of the truck.

“You too! Hands in the fucking air!” An officer shouted at Jameera, his gun pointed at her chest.

Q maneuvered in front of Jameera, speaking low and calm. “Aye, man. You don’t have to do all of that. She’s in shock. She just found—”

CRACK!

The officer cracked Q in the face with the gun. Blood spurted from the gash that formed beneath his right eye.

“Ahhh,” I yelped as I was thrown up against the car.

I felt a large hand across the circumference of my head, pushing my face further into the chilly window. Shoes scraped the pavement behind me, and I couldn’t see anyone else until Xain was slapped up against the truck beside me.

We made eye contact, and Xain saw my lips puckered open like a dead fish from the force the officer used. My face was seconds away from going through the window.

“Why the fuck you being so rough with her? You don’t have to do all of that!” Xain challenged, rage bubbling in his eyes.

“Shut the fuck up,” the officer cuffing me retorted.

He squeezed my arm tighter, peeled my face off the window, and took me a step closer to Xain. “You feel those cuffs? You ain’t in control out here.”

CLUNK!

“Ouch,” I groaned as the officer violently slammed my body into the side of the truck again.

His eyes never left Xain as my face slapped up against the truck. I was still a little loopy from the Xanax, and all of the bouncing me around was making me nauseous. My eyes slammed shut in an attempt to quell the vomit rising in my throat. When my eyes fluttered open, Xain’s wild eyes bore into mine.

His gaze flicked from me to the officer. That same devious smile that I’d witnessed the night he left me in the rain spread across his handsome face, and I knew it was up.

“Xain–” I faltered.

THUNK!

Xain broke free from the officer who had a grasp on his arms and headbutted the shit out of the officer holding me. The grip on my arm was released as the officer stumbled back, grasping his bloody forehead.

POP!

“AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!” I screamed, dropping to the ground.

The officer who was previously cuffing Xain let off a shot, and if the scrawny officer were able to handle the recoil, there would be a bullet hole marring his head. Everyone stood frozen. The loud shouting, feet scraping the ground, and overall chaos fell silent after my shrill scream.

“You missed pussy,” Xain taunted before the officer holstered his gun and kneed him in the stomach repeatedly. Xain doubled over, and when the officer lifted his leg again, he drove all 189 pounds of his muscular body into the officer, tackling him with his hands cuffed behind his back. The officer tumbled to the ground, and all available officers rushed to get a lick in on Xain.
