“He does,” Bellamy says.

“Then he can stop opening it to show people.”

We leave our shopping bags beneath the coat hooks. On the roof, Cole is at the grill with Javon beside him, and Jarrett is near the railing with Cam. He looks up when the door opens. His attention comes to me before it goes to Bellamy, and he smiles without stopping what he is saying.

I go over and put my hand against his back.

“How was it?” I ask when Cam finishes his sentence.

“Good.”

“Basketball good or agent good?”

Cam laughs. Jarrett turns toward me. “Basketball.”

“Then I’m glad.”

“You find anything?”

“I did.”

His eyes move over my face. “You going to make me wait?”

“You’re busy. Finish.”

I kiss him and go to find Bellamy, who is telling Cole what happened with the return. Javon hands me the end of a strand of lights before I can ask whether anybody needs help.

“Hold this, please.”

“What are we doing?”

“Trying to keep it out of the food while I fix the hook.”

He has a screwdriver and very little patience. I hold the strand away from the serving table while he discovers the screw is turning without tightening. Jarrett joins us and takes a look.

“Hole’s stripped,” he says.

“I see that now.”

“You could’ve stopped six turns ago.”

Javon hands him the screwdriver. “Show me.”

Jarrett looks at the tool, then at his brother. “You had that ready.”

“Been listening to you all my life. Learned something.”

Cole comes over with a small pack of cable ties from the equipment case. “These will hold it until Nina gets it fixed.”

“Look at you helping before somebody asks,” I tell him.

He grins at Jarrett. “We have a history.”

Jarrett takes the ties. “Everybody got something to say today.”

“Because you keep stopping to answer,” Javon says, already heading back to the grill.

I hold the lights while Jarrett secures the strand to the bracket. When he finishes, I check that it is clear of the table. He checks that nobody needs the space behind me before drawing me back against him.
