“I love it. It’s perfect.”

I kissed him, short and sweet, overcome by his generosity.

“And because you deserve it, I got you something else.”

He led me back to the kitchen. Next to the massive box of luxury chocolates was a jewelry box.

Inside it sat a thin gold chain.

“I know you have your chain, but I thought this might suit a bit better.”

“How did you—”

“You may have mentioned the old chain you had being too long. And worn. I didn’t want you to feel like the ring was getting in the way of your work.”

“Thank you. I—that’s really thoughtful, Zane.”

I allowed him to fasten it, then turned to face him.

“I hear you have your dress fitting appointment soon?”

“Next week.”

He held my hands, squeezing them. “Are you ready for all this?”

“I don’t think a girl can ever be ready for a last-minute wedding, but yes. I think I am, or at least will be when the time comes.”

“Good. I’ll let you get to work then. Dinner tonight?”

I nodded, watching him leave. On impulse, I unfastened the chain, sliding off the ring. I toyed with the band, studying the sparkling diamonds, admiring the way it shined in the light. Overcome by the sudden urge, I slipped it on my finger. A warm, welcome sensation filled me now.

I should take it off, but at that moment, I didn’t want to. I was engaged after all, and it was about time that I got used to it.

AMIRA

“You’re back so soon.” I stood, brushing back the strands of hair off my face. I’d worked through lunch, catching up on all my orders, so by late afternoon, I was exhausted. I’d taken what I thought of as a quick coffee break on my brand-new sofa, where I’d fallen asleep.

Oops.

“We have some unfinished business,” Zane murmured.

“What—” Before I could say another word, he claimed my mouth in a kiss that was possessive yet sweet. It wasn’t until my toes began to tingle that he pulled away. “Tell me to stop, Amira. Tell me you don’t want more. Because I’ve been in agony since our agreement. I want you. I’ve wanted to be inside you since that night we had sex. Please.” His shoulders were tense, his eyes greedy. “Please, if you want me. If even a small part of you needs this as much as I do, say yes.”

I licked my lips, overcome by his confession. By my desire.

“Say yes and I’ll have you screaming in pleasure. This I promise you.”

“Yes, Zane. I want this. I want you, too.”

Our kiss was electric. Like lightning and brimstone and lava all boiled into one. His hands were everywhere, stroking, teasing, tormenting me.

I ripped off his coat, trying my best to undo each button of his shirt.

“Allow me.” Zane brushed my hands away, then yanked at the seams. “Don’t look so horrified, Amira. It’s just a shirt.”

One that had cost more than my going rate.

He tugged off my blouse, then groaned in appreciation as he palmed my breasts.
