Kade’s head snapped up. Even at this distance, I could tell he was off his face. High on whatever combo he’d gotten his hands on.

Definitely not sober.

“What happened to the house, Kade?”

“Zaaaaaaaaaaaaaane! Brother, come in here! We’re having a party!”

“Where the fuck have you been?”

Kade weaved his way over, cigarette hanging from his lips. “You know me. I go where the wind takes me.” He fluttered his fingers in my face, swaying slightly. His eyes were dilated and his face gaunt.

The sight of him made me sick to my stomach.

“You brought your wife. Even better.” He grinned.

I grabbed his shirt, yanking him forward. “What the fuck is this, Kade?”

“I told you, a party.” His sloppy grin infuriated me.

“The house. What the fuck happened to the house? It looks like it hasn’t been cleaned since Omar died. And where the hell is all the stuff?”

“Gone!” Kade imitated a gust of wind, blowing on my face. The smell made me want to retch. “Poof!”

I let go of him, afraid of what I’d do if I didn’t.

“Kade, what do you mean, gone? Snap out of it,” Amira implored.

He tottered, trying to focus on her face. My skin crawled at his lecherous expression.

“Sss-s-sold dit,” he stuttered.

“Why? Why are you stealing money from the business? Why didn’t you just come to me? You have millions of dollars in inherit—”

“Poof!” Kade flicked his wrist. “Gone.”

I jerked back. “What?”

“You’re such a party pooper,” he whined.

“You can’t have blown millions, Kade. Omar died, what . . . eighteen months ago? Nobody can blow—”

“Buh bye!” Kade pouted, his bottom lip protruding.

I gaped at him. “You gambled all of it?”

“I like to paaartaaaay.”

“For drugs.”

“For fun, man!”

“Fuck.” I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to maintain my composure.

When I opened them, all I saw was Kade’s defiant expression. The man just couldn’t take responsibility for his actions.

“Don’t judge me. You don’t know what it’s like. Perfect Zane. Perfect son. My father left me with half.” He laughed maniacally. “Half! His only son. His real son, and he couldn’t even give me what I was owed.”

I gritted my teeth. What the hell was he talking about?
