“And you didn’t stop at money,” I point out because why the fuck not. We’re here. Might as well get everything out in the open. “Kota’s unmentionables.”
Even with his head down, I see my dad’s lips quirk. Motherfucker.
“What?” Kota questions.
“We saw your black thong,” I tell her. “It was in the laundry room, in your basket, and…as soon as my back was turned, he pocketed it.” I know he fucking did. I’ve always known. I just didn’t want to admit it. I wanted to see the good in my father, so I chose to. Time and time again. But time is up and I’m done pretending. I’m done covering for him. “He went through your underwear drawers while you were on tour. He stole all those pairs.”
This revelation doesn’t so much as stir Sera, but her daughter…
“Why would you—You’re disgusting!” Kota yells at him, getting absolutely zero remorse in response.
I think…Graham Pierson is incapable. He does what he wants with no regard for anyone else, not even me. Especially not me.
“This family is twisted,” Leader murmurs before saying louder, “Look, we don’t care who lost the money or how. We don’t even care who pays it back, but we’re not leaving until somebody does.”
“Sera?” I press, because out of all of us, she’s the only one likely to have anything near seven hundred Gs.
Still, she says nothing.
So, Kota tries. “Mom!”
“Criminals,” Sera wheezes.
Oh, shit.
I take in the three men squeezing in tighter.
Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit.
“You’re going to jail. All of you.”
My eyes fly to Kota. This is not good.
“Mom, focus. We need—”
“I work so hard and you want to come in here and take it from me.”
At this point, I’m not sure if she’s talking to my dad or the enforcers.
“You can’t,” she all but whispers.
That doesn’t stop anybody in this foyer from hearing it though. Leader, Scout, and Muscle exchange glances.
The latter swings his gun in Sera’s direction.
Oh, fuck. Oh, fucking fuck.
Hands up in front of me, I shuffle sideways, putting myself in front of my dad, then Sera.
“She’s in shock. She doesn’t know what she’s saying. We’ll get you enough money to—”
“Enough money?” the leader echoes. “Did we stutter? We’re here for all the money.”
“We’ll get it,” I say, seriously questioning if we will. Fucking how?
“Khaos.” Kota whimpers.
“It’s okay,” I tell her without taking my eyes off Enzo. “It’s okay. We’re just talking, figuring everything out. That’s all.”
