“I’m not going to read to you while you’re getting your ass kicked, Khaos!”

I send her an offended side-eye. Can I get a little fucking credit here? My ass is about the only place this motherfucker hasn’t kicked.

“Read your book then.”

I hear a muttered, “Okay.”

While she’s distracted with that, I launch my counterattack, landing enough strikes to make Buck as bloody as I am, if not worse.

Kota doesn’t make a peep during any of it.

Making my way back over to her, I ask, “Where you at?” It doesn’t matter if I’m reading it or not, I like hearing about the books Kota reads.

“The grand gesture.”

Her favorite part.

I look over to see her face as she reads. As usual, she’s smiling from ear to ear.

“And? What is it?”

“He bought the company she works for and made her CEO!”

Of course. They’re always over-the-top displays of wealth, these gestures. No one likes a broke-ass book boyfriend, including me. The last thing I want to read about is someone in the same situation as myself, unless it shows how he gets out of it himself and not just depend on his rich woman.

“Is your bitch ever gonna shut up?” Buck sneers.

Planting my feet, I straighten and motion both my hands for him to come at me.

As soon as he rushes me, I get him in a double collar tie before bringing my knee up into his torso at least a half dozen times.

I grab hold of his arm at the same time I spin him around, bending it behind his back.

“Ow, fuck, fuck, fuck!”

“Don’t tap now, motherfucker. I’m not done with you yet.” Mashing his face to the fence with my other hand, I tell him, “Apologize.”

“For what?”

“For calling my girl a bitch.”

“We’re in the middle of a fucking fight and you won’t stop running your mou—”

“What does that say about you, huh?” I taunt close to his ear. “That I can keep up an entire conversation during a match with you?”

“That you’re the bitch?”

That probably would’ve set me off a couple weeks ago. Lucky for him, I don’t find emasculation as offensive anymore.

“Khaos.”

I give Kota a wink, letting her know I’m not affected by the weak-ass trash talk.

What I do care about is that he called my girlfriend a bitch. That shit needs remedied.

“Keep it moving. Keep it moving,” the ref warns.

“Apologize to her.”
