“Khaos.”

Our foreheads still kissing and now our noses, too, he groans, “You have no idea what you saying my name like that does to me.”

The thing is, I’m pretty sure I do.

I twist my head to the side with a desperate, “I can’t do this.”

“You already are.”

“No.”

“Yeah,” he says against my cheek, his nose and lips bumping it in time with our bodies bobbing in the water.

“There’s no penetration.”

“Cheating isn’t just penetration.”

“Well, it’s the most unforgivable.” Unlocking my ankles, I release my legs and push away from Khaos.

He lets me go with a growl.

I’m several feet away when he says, “For the record, I wouldn’t ask for forgiveness.”

“Of course not. You’d have to still be around.”

Khaos is quick to look away, his hands rubbing together while his jaw clenches.

I can’t even begin to guess why he’s acting offended. He literally said—on multiple occasions—that was all he was good for: a meaningless fuck.

“Might be time to get your hearing checked, Stepbrother. Mine seems to be working just fine.”

“You hear this?” He gives me his middle finger.

This laugh sounds different than the previous ones, probably because it is.

I turn away so Khaos can’t see the truth as to why, and mutter, “Loud and clear,” before going under.

When I come up, Khaos is stalking up the pool stairs.

“Bread’s done.”

Oh, crap. I almost forgot.

“Okay. I’ll go get it.”

At the side, I heft myself out of the water. I’m still wringing out my hair when Khaos breezes by me with a short, “I got it.”

I’m hot on his heels, telling him, “I said I’ll get it.”

Out in the common area, we make it to the staircase at the same time, both of us bumping into each other to squeeze in.

“Move.”

He sticks an arm out, his fist pressed to the wall to block me. “Or what?”

I duck under his arm and shoot up the stairs ahead of him.

“Why are you so fucking small?”
