I forgot to turn off my alarm, and now the music is filling the silence in the living space.

Derek grunts in his sleep, but like miracle work, he still isn’t waking. And instead of turning off the alarm when I reach the phone, I just dim the volume and let the song play. The piano echoes from the speaker and it’s like the soft notes override the rumbling of the water boiler.

I already have my tea strainer filled and ready, when I realize I’m not sure how to make whatever beverage Derek usually has in the morning. I’ve seen him get a small container from the top shelf and put the content in his mug, but I’m not sure what’s even inside it.

Looks like today I’ll find out.

Not bothering to get a stool, I climb up on the kitchen counter and stretch to reach the top shelf. My fingers have just barely touched the container I’m looking for when a soft chuckle interrupts Isak’s voice.

Frozen on my tiptoes, I listen into the living room, and almost jump, when a whispered touch lands on my calves. Derek’s hands slowly trail up my naked legs and curve around my upper thigh, just below my ass.

“I gotta admit, I could get used to waking up to this view.”

I can feel his breath on the back of my thighs as he speaks, making me very aware that his face must be almost level with my backside.

The blush that creeps into my cheeks only intensifies when instead of backing away, he stays put, waiting for my calves to give out.

“Lean forward, mommy.” Derek’s voice is hoarse, sending a shiver down my spine, a tingle that settles between my thighs.

My weight leans into his hold, his palms bracing my thighs as I lean into the shelf before me the slightest bit.

I know where that demand came from, when I feel his groan against my soaked panties.

“Just like that.” His lips move against the fabric, making me gasp for a breath that never goes past my tongue.

Trying to get closer to him, I lean backwards. My calves ache beneath my weight, but it’s worth it for the brush of his nose and chin against my thigh.

His chuckle ghosts over my naked skin, and then it’s gone.

“Get down here.”

I look down over my shoulder, finding Derek leaning against the edge of the kitchen island. He took his shirt off. All of his well defined abs are on full display. His arms are crossed, his blonde hair disheveled and the green eyes watching me like prey.

Knees wobbling and breath stuttering, I make my descent. But even when my toes touch the floor, the unsteady feeling lingers.

“What did you want up there?”

There’s a serious question in his eyes, and I shrug.

“I wanted to make you breakfast.”

He’s made me breakfast every morning, and I wanted to return the favour. Is that not something he could’ve guessed?

Judging from the hungry expression that’s taking over his face, it isn’t a thought that had crossed his mind.

“You wanna get wife’d up that bad?”

What?!

The blush that rushes into my cheeks heats my entire face.

“I’m—” I want to explain myself, but I don’t get out a single word, because Derek moves before I can draw a full breath. His grip on me is firm and I don’t even trip when he pulls me closer and turns us both around. My feet lose touch with the floor and I end up with my ass planted onto the counter, Derek leaning in between my thighs.

“You wanna end up like Posie, huh?” His hands gather my clothes, tearing the fabric when he drags me so close to him that my middle is pressed flush against his hips. He’s so tall. Sometimes I forget about it, but then he does things like this, and I feel like a little doll in his hands.

The movements of his hands are frantic, his fingertips drawing chaos on my skin as he peels me out of my clothes until I’m bare before him.

Holding me close with one arm wrapped around my torso, he uses the other to push down his joggers and hoist me up against his hips.
